"You are so generous", my best friend beamed at me. There were balloons and streamers everywhere. People were chatting all around us. Sara was 20 now and she was happy. As her best friend I could tell.

"Vanessa", I heard someone call. I spun around surprised at someone using my actual name. My mother named me Vanessa Rosalina, after her grandmother, 25 years ago. That's the only thing I know about my mother. She died when I was a baby.

John was standing right in front of me. You wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at him but he was a member of the Gonzales gang.

"Nothing really. Just saw you and thought I'd say hi."

"Ok is everything at the office good?" The look in his eye let me know he understood what I meant. "Anthony said the shipment went through fine and everything is unloaded at the warehouse".

Before I could speak the birthday girl decided to make an appearance. "What are you guys talking about", Sara questioned looking back and fourth between both me and John.

A fake laugh erupted from my mouth. "I can't tell you Sara that would ruin the surprise." The excitement flooded her eyes and that's all you could see. That's how I knew she believed me. Then again why wouldn't she?

"You have a surprise for me", she squealed not able to contain her excitement.

"Yes but not yet now go while I finish off the remaining details." She walked away and I sighed in relief. I know what you're thinking 'what did you get yourself into' or 'you don't have a surprise for her'. Well stop thinking and let me tell my story. I actually did have a surprise for Kara. You see Kara and I have been friends for nearly five years. She has always had less than me wealth wise. For obvious reasons such as my father running the largest gang in the world and hers was a school teacher. Anyways, for the past three years Sara has been saving up money for a car and she was almost there. However, life doesn't ever go the way you think, some one broke in and stole her life's savings. She filed a police report and tried everything to get her money back. She kept telling herself they would find her money or find the person who took it. I had already solved the mystery though. The money is in my office. My plan was to surprise her with a new car. I couldn't help it she was saving up to buy a used car when I could just buy her a brand new one. The thing is though if I didn't steal the money she wouldn't accept the car. Trust me I know her and she would have said no. Without money she has to accept my gift. It was honestly the perfect plan.

Everyone gathered outside on the front porch. People whispering about what this could possibly be could be heard blocks away. The anticipation was almost palpable.

"Everyone", I announced giving them a chance to quiet themselves. "Most of you know me as Sara's best friend, but I like to think of myself as the luckiest person alive. To know someone so sweet and genuine who thinks so highly of me is truly a blessing. You may or may not have heard about the break in that occurred here one week ago. Sara has been saving money for the past year for a car. She was so close and but life had other plans. One week ago, a stranger broke into Sara's house and stole her entire life's savings. She was and still is devastated. So I got her a small gift to make up for it. " I turned around and whistles to let my men know to bring it in. They pulled up in a white 2018 Lexus IS. On top was a huge red bow.   There were gasps and whispers. Sara had starting crying somewhere in my speech.

"Thank you so much V you don't know how much this means to me" she cried while walking towards me for a hug.

"It's the least I could do after what happened."
