Beauty is not a word most people in my town associate with me. I'm definitely not a stunning beauty, so that kind of makes sense, but I always try to bring beauty to ordinary things. I guess I'm hoping that someday beauty will find ordinary old me and repay me for it. Then, everyone might at least try and accept me, like they accept the rest of my family. I guess the reason most people don't care for me is because of the color of my eyes; blue. Just like my great-grandfather. The rest of my family have lovely hazel eyes. For some odd reason I got the Unlucky gene from my great Gramps, whom the nation despises. If your great-grandfather was in everyone's history books, you'd probably be one of the coolest people around. However mine is in the books as a villain. For some reason, I'm not exactly sure why (and I'm pretty sure no one else is sure either) he decided to undertake a daring attempt to assassinate the Crown Prince Jason the first, who is now our current King. Obviously the attempt failed miserably, but it left our family line to be despised by everyone. Our family is still disliked by many people, but the majority has kind of gotten over it and accepts us, well at least everyone in my family except me. Because of my unlucky I color. Most people in (name of land) have brown eyes, a few have green or gray. Very few have blue and those who do often claim they're gray, because it's bad luck in (name of land) to have blue eyes. My eyes are just too bright of a blue to pretend to be gray. People say that the blue in my great-grandfather's eyes drove him mad and that someday I may turn out the same. I'm lucky I can even find a job! Yup. I work as a cook in the back of the kitchen of a little Inn on edge of town. (Apparently blue eyes don't make me "mad" enough to poison anybody.) This job was a real gift and I try to make the most of it. I think most people don't know I work here and I try to keep it that way. It's a rather nice inn and I wouldn't want it to lose any business. The Inn is actually where the most important day of my life started...
