Drowning At Sea (sort of)

Ok guys, this will be way out there, and skipping ahead a tad to when the boys are a bit older, brotherly stuff. Also, if you're one of those people that pays attention to ages and does the calculations and all that, I admit freely that I switched them up a bit. Sonic is 18, Silver 13 in this one. I plan to go back and fix a lot in earlier chapters. Anywho, really appreciate the comments, they are fabulous so thank you, and enjoy.

Sonic yelped as they fell the short distance, hitting the bottom of the tank with a dull thud. His elbow throbbed and his head spun for a moment.
Beside him, Silver muttered something about why wasn't he at home doing his homework and drinking chocolate milk.
Sonic ignored him and pushed himself up, looking around at their new surroundings, which were much the same as they had been moments before, except for the glass wall separating them from the rest of the room. He pressed his hands into the wall, and realized it was much sturdier then normal glass. Well, it would have to be to hold them. Eggman wasn't a complete idiot after all.
Speaking of Eggman, he was off to the side of the room, typing instructions into his computer station, probably sending more instructions to his current greatest creation. The one that had managed to best Sonic for once. But he attributed that to the fact that Silver had gotten in the way, because it was easier to put the blame on his younger brother, even though it was his own fault he was there in the first place. But then, he hadn't known Eggman would be at large that night. It had been supposed to be an attempt to get Silver out of the house for once. The younger hedgehog hardly ever left his room, and it was just his job, as his big brother to help break him out of his shell. They'd been on their way to meet up with Knuckles and Amy, go for dinner at the nearest fast food joint, and then see a movie. Of course, they hadn't even made it to where they were supposed to meet the others, curtesy of Eggman. Keeping his brother out of the fight hadn't been too hard, he didn't like fighting. But he also hadn't been willing to run away, which, in the end had resulted in a rather humiliating capture.
"So, do you have a plan?" Silver asked, getting to his feet and straightening his jacket. He didn't bother looking around, probably he didn't want to acknowledge they were into the same room as that maniac.
"Uh, no." Sonic answered him truthfully, scuffing his sneakers on the slick floor.
Silver looked like he was going to crumble like a stale cookie.
"Plans are overrated." Sonic said, knowing he wasn't helping by saying it, but unable to stop himself. "Something always goes wrong. You can't plan for every eventuality."
"I beg to differ." Silver muttered, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring at the floor.
Sonic scratched the back of his neck, thinking. He looked up at where they'd fallen from. The top of the tank was about the length of three or four Mobians, and he couldn't get a running start in the limited space. Nonetheless, he still tried jumping for it. He missed it by a lot. He thought some more, then snapped his fingers. "Ok, I've got it."
Silver looked hopeful.
"You just use your scary mind powers to float us up there. Simple."
His face crumbled again, lip quivering like he was going to cry. "But you know what happens when I use it!" He wrapped his arms around himself. "I'll hurt someone."
Sonic shrugged his shoulders. "So long as it's Eggman getting hurt, I think we're ok."
But Silver shook his head, looking at his shoes. "I'll end up breaking something again."
Sonic blew out a frustrated sigh. He tried to be sympathetic, he really did. But the stress of their situation, coupled with the fact that he really had no other plan was making it hard. Mostly, he wanted to take his brother by the shoulders and shake him. Instead, he looked up again, pondering. "Fine, then just get on my shoulders. I'll lift you up and you grab the edge." He knew they wouldn't reach, but he hoped that maybe he could convince him to at least use his telekinesis to get himself out the rest of the way.
Silver was smart, sometimes scarily so, like he knew that something was going to happen before it actually did. Most likely he knew what was up. But he obeyed and scrambled onto his brothers shoulders as instructed.
Sonic wobbled a bit when Silver pinwheeled his arms, tipping precariously. But he straightened up and regained his balance as Silver reached for the lip of the tank.
"I can't reach." He said.
Sonic grunted, then told him, "Get up on your knees."
He did, though they almost tipped over again.
Sonic had never considered himself short. In fact, he was almost as tall as Shadow. Silver though, was still pretty tiny. Never before had he cursed his brother's unfortunate height. He did so then. Which wasn't fair either, he knew.
"Forget it. We don't reach." Silver muttered, sounding dejected.
"Get on your feet." Sonic ground out.
"We won't reach." Silver said condescendingly, as if he were addressing a stubborn child. But he obeyed.
He was right of course, they were still definitely not tall enough.
"Look, you have to get yourself out. Just jump and give yourself a little boost, easy." Sonic tried to encourage him.
"I can't." Silver said stubbornly.
Sonic gritted his teeth. He swore if they survived this, they were going to have to work on that confidence issue of his. "Just. Try."
Silver was quiet for a moment, then he coiled his muscles, preparing to jump.
Something heavy and metal slammed onto the top of the tank, sealing off the top.
Silver cried out as he tumbled off Sonic's shoulders.
He yelped again as they both hit the glass hard.
Tap tap.
They turned their heads to find Bokun, that annoying henchbot of Eggman's staring in at them, giggling gleefully.
Sonic stuck his tongue out at him.
But the little robot only giggled some more. Then he ran over to a sort of lever with a hose attached to the end.
Only then did Sonic realize it lead all the way to their tank, attached to the side.
Bokun twisted the tap.
And then the water began pouring in. Cold, cold water.
"Not good." Silver said as they scrambled to their feet.
"Ya think?!" Sonic didn't mean to yell, and he didn't miss his younger brother flinching away, a hurt look crossing his childish features. "Sorry." He muttered. "Just, sorry. I didn't mean that."
Silver nodded his head, but still looked a little hurt.
But there was no time to think about that. The water had already made it all the way up to Silver's chin. He'd be treading water in a few seconds. Sonic needed a plan. Desperately. But there was nothing. Nothing. They were going to die. Worse then that, they were going to drown! The absolute worse way to die, in his opinion. Shadow was going to kill him for dragging Silver into this mess. Oh wait, he'd already be dead. Ha ha ha ha ha.
Silver's teeth were chattering, and Sonic belatedly realized they were both treading water now, getting nearer and nearer to the top where they would run out of breathing room.
"S-S-Sonic?" Silver's voice squeaked and he stuttered painfully. "I'm n-not ready to d-d-die!"
Sonic could hear the tears in his little brother's voice. "We're not going to die." He said firmly, hoping the lie he was telling him wasn't as obvious as it felt.
Silver started gasping for air not long after that.
They were almost to the very top, almost out of time.
Numb with the cold, Sonic closed his eyes for a second, so tired of treading water, so ready to just give in. "Silver, I'm sorry."
There was no response.
Sonic opened his eyes.
Silver wasn't there.
"SILVER!" Taking a big breath, Sonic ducked under the water, keeping his eyes open to look for his missing baby brother.
Silver had almost sunk to the bottom. He'd exhausted himself, couldn't physically keep himself above the water anymore.
Sonic swam toward him, wrapping his arms around the trembling body and pushing his feet off the glass base of the tank to rocket them back towards the quickly dwindling supply of oxygen.
Silver choked on the air when their heads broke the surface, but he began breathing normally again after a moment.
Sonic had to kick his legs twice as hard to keep the both of them at the surface.
The water rose ever higher.
"We're going to die!" Silver cried.
But this time, Sonic didn't have the energy to voice any comforting lies. He could only hold his brother's head above the water and pray.
He hadn't been paying any attention to what was going on outside the tank. As far as he was concerned, it didn't matter anymore. Now though, a flash of light caused by an explosion made him look.
Something black and red and spinning was smashing into things. Robots were scattering this way and that, Eggman was nowhere to be seen, basic destruction.
The water covered their heads.
Immediately, Sonic stopped kicking, holding Silver still and close to his chest, because he knew that the more they moved, the faster they'd run out of oxygen.
A cracking sound reverberated through the water.
He could see the glass spider-webbing in one spot. He covered Silver's already closed eyes with one hand and squeezed his own eyes shut tight, bracing himself.
Another crack, and then they were being carried out of the tank with the rushing liquid.
Sonic gasped for air as cold concrete cushioned their fall. He opened his eyes to see a furious pair of eyes staring down at him. He registered a shivering, wet Silver clinging to him before a pair of hands yanked them both up. The words "Chaos Control!"
Daddy was there. And daddy was very, very mad at him.

So let me know what you thought. Constructive criticism is always welcome. Anyways, I just wanted to let you guys know, if there are any Frozen fans out there, I've put up a new story, well one-shot basically, entitled The Storm Inside Of Me, so check it out, drop a review maybe. Thanks for the support, always.
