"Is there a back entrance?" I ask. He nods.

"With any luck, that'll be unlocked." Lance nods, gulping. We head to the back room again and he jiggles a doorknob. "Fuck."

"Can you just call that girl?" I ask him.

"I can try. She won't like it." He pulls out a phone and taps in a number.

"Hello?" Comes the muffled voice from the other side of the line.

"Hey, Pidge. We're locked in." Lance says calmly.

"Ugh." There's a shuffling noise and the sound of a bed creaking as she sits up. "I gave it to Shay. She has opening shift tomorrow."

"She doesn't have a phone." Whines Lance.

"What do you want me to do, break her into an Apple store to get her a phone eleven at night?"

"Just go over to her place." I suggest.

"She's in an apartment building, and I don't know what room. You guys pick a lock with a coffee stirrer or something. Night." The girl yawns.

"KATIE RACHEL HOLT, DO NOT HANG UP THAT PHONE-" Lance threatens.

"Lance Charles McClain," she mocks, "have a nice sleepover."

Lance groans.

"We might as well try picking the lock." I take a coffee stirrer and poke it into the keyhole.

"Do you know how to pick locks?" Lance asks skeptically.

"Do you?" I shoot back. I twist the wooden stick and I hear a cracking noise. I pull out the stirrer, but part of it's jammed in the keyhole.

"Great. Now we won't be able to pick the lock at all. Thanks, Kogane." Groans Lance.

"We can sleep on the beanbag chairs." I offer.

"What, already? You tire out quickly." He whines.

"Are you insinuating that I can't pull an all-nighter?" I say, suddenly feeling defensive.

"No, no. I'm saying that you can't stay up past twelve." He smirks. I glare at him.

"It's a good thing they have napkins here, because you're gonna eat my dust."

"Heard dust tastes good with salt. A recipe you should try." He accepts my challenge. "What do you think of horror movies?"

"Love them." I lie. I'm far too easily scared. The Cave of Wonders from Aladdin still terrifies me.

"You ever seen the Babadook? That's a good one. Lots of tension."

"Haven't seen it. Sounds a bit tame for my tastes." I try to remain as aloof as I can.

"Pidge bought a smartphone projector we can use. I have some caramel corn in the snack closet. I mean, Allura's gonna have my head for eating it tomorrow, but whatever." He drags me back to the employee's lounge. He offers me a red beanbag, which I gladly accept.

We watch the movie. He was right about the tension. By the end I still can't tell what exactly happened.

There were a few scary parts for me, but not enough to make me scream. It was mostly just creepy.

"How was that?" Lance asks.

"Great." I reply.

"What do you wanna watch next?"

"My dream." I yawn. Then I remember the competition. "Wait, sorry. You wouldn't know that movie."

"Right." He frowns. "Well, do you have anything to do in your bag?"
