{ This book is biased on the "Black Knight Satellite" which is a strange object that's been floating around earth and estimated is over 13,000 years old! Some say that it's a piece of "discover" and others seem to think that it's just a thermal blanket that got lost in the building of the international space station. But sightings have been going on for many, many years and it's possible that we're all wrong. And there's actually something out there and it's sending signals to earth... }

Thunder cracked against the sky and my eyes flew open. Thunderstorms always woke me up. The rain fell heavily onto the large leaves outside, making a small clicking noise. The air was moist and cold and I tried my best to hide under the covers. Now the rain fell faster. Anything dry was almost immediately converted into a soppy mess. Lightning cracked distantly and thunder roared.
I glanced at my clock, it was 2 am. Why couldn't I get just one decent night to peacefully sleep?! I could hear all the rain piling up outside, my driveway was probably going to be more or less a lake in the morning.
BAM! Thunder rattled the house. I closed my eyes and tried my hardest to fall back asleep. That's when I heard it; a small moan coming from downstairs.
The first things that flashed through my mind were "intruders. Killers. Aliens. Ghosts." For some stupid reason. Why couldn't creepy things come to my house the day my parents weren't at some other state?!
I decided to go check it out. I went down the stairs, holding my phone out for a flashlight.
"Hello?" I whispered wearily. "Is anyone there?"
The moaning grew closer, it was in the basement. Ugh! Why did it always have to be the basement?! Why couldn't the killers hide in the living room or something not scary?
I tiptoed down the creaking stairs before stepping onto the cold stone floor, which sent a shiver down my spine. The moaning was just to my left. A small figure was lying on the floor, illuminated by the light of my phone.
The wind was whistling and rain was pouring. And, even without windows, I could tell it was A LOT of water.
I stuck my foot out and without warning kicked the figure. The moaning was replaced with the voice of my brother, Kale.
"Octavia!" He said in a whispering yell. "What the hell!?"
I screamed. I was so scared I dropped my phone, the light went out.
BAM! Thunder boomed across the town.
"Jesus! Chill out!" Kale yelled. "I was just working on my invention and I smashed my finger with the hammer."
"Your invention?!" I exclaimed. "AT TWO IN THE MORNING?!"
"Yes." Kale grinned. "And I think I've finally done it."
I gaped at him, not knowing if he was being serious or not.
Thunder rumbled and Kale looked me in the eyes. "I did it, Octavia. I did it."
I bent down and picked up my phone; No cracks. Good.
"Well are you going to show me or am I just going to sit here and stare at you?" I asked, annoyed that he'd woken me up.
"I'll show you." Kale said, turning away from me and flicking on the basement's light.
"Wait." I said. "Can you REALLY receive the signals?"
He laughed, like this was just a joke and not one of the biggest things to ever happen to us. "Of course, Taves." Kale said calmly. "And so much more."
