Secret Window 2 (sequel to Secret Window the movie)

At the end of Secret Window, we last saw Mort Rainey (Johnny Depp) at his house in the woods, talking to a police officer while eating corn, being accused of Shooters murders. After learning the truth about John Shooter and Mort Rainey……

It has been ten years since psycho writer, Mort Rainey, has been in jail and if finally released.  His charges of murdering his ex wife, his dog, Ted, and others had caused his arrest.  He has given up John Shooter and has Parole Officer checking on him everyday.  He had continued his job as a writer.  But is all normal for Rainey and the rest of the people close to him?

Mort is starting fresh after discovering what his did.  He is starting a new novel.  Yet once again, he has writers block after discovering his ex girlfriend, Taylor, cheated on him with a British writer, Declan.  Declan is a graduate student who is graduating soon.  He is a very intelligent, know-it-all, serious type of guy.  Declan wears eyeglasses and is built thin.  Mort’s novel is going to be a sequel to the book, Secret Window, he wrote ten years ago.  As hard as he tried, he just can’t let Taylor go.  She has been so nice and caring toward him since his release.  It’s like Shooter is trying to escape once more to go in for another kill.  Mort has given up Shooter for good…or has he?

Everyday Mort’s parole officer, Dan, stops by his house to check on him.  Dan strongly dislikes Mort.  He is a hard, tough, loud, chief officer and investigator.  After his visit one day, Mort decides to take a drive down to the school where Taylor teaches.  Mort asks her if she misses him and she says that she is sorry but she is happy being with Declan.  Mort leaves and “Shooter’s” anger grows stronger by the minute.  Later that day, Mort takes a ride to Declan’s house.  Declan is busy reading when he arrives.  Soon after, Taylor arrives and enters the house.  Mort watches from his car.  He can’t see why they are so happy, he couldn’t possibly take her back.  Declan outsmarts him every time.

Mort goes home.  He sits at his desk trying to continue his novel.  As he sorts through his drawer for a package of cigarettes, there lies his black hat, Shooters hat.  Mort stares at the hat and starts to remember how it felt to wear the hat.  But no, no matter how tempting, he cannot wear the hat of John Shooter.  Once more he stands between the words “shoot” and “her” as if they were still visibly carved on the wall.  He decides to go to bed, hoping to get rid of shooter.

The next day Mort sits by his computer to work on his novel when his parole officer comes by.  Dan starts to yell at Mort.  Mort is completely puzzled.  He offers Dan a cup of coffee.  Dan continues yelling and get angrier by the minute.  Dan was complaining about Mort going to see Taylor at the school and says he is out of his mind.  He says it is best to forget about her and to leave her and Declan alone, “You are sick, you psychotic freak of human nature! “ Mort replies, “You just leave me alone, you’re the freak, you cruel, stupid, embarrassment of a police officer!”  Dan shoves Mort into the wall and says, “How dare you talk to me like that!” Mort screams at him to get out of his house.  The parole officer leaves and Mort goes back to his desk and opens the drawer again to get a cigarette.  After he lights its, he picks up the hat and finds a red screwdriver under it.  That was Shooters weapon.  Mort is determined not to let Shooter have his release from his prison.

The next day, Taylor decides to give Mort a call. She is worried about him.  Taylor asks if he is alright.  “Why wouldn’t I be?”  “I don’t know, it’s just that day…at the school.”  “What about it?” “You seemed upset.”  “Why do you even care, you have Declan, he is the reason you left.”  “Why I left?”  “Yes, the reason you left me!”  “That is a lie.” “If it is a lie, then what is the real reason you left?” “I didn’t love you anymore.  You never were there.  It was as if you were dead, like you were a ghost.”  She says goodbye to Mort and hangs up the phone.  Mort walks over to his couch to take a nap.  He has a nightmare, a flashback.  He is at Taylor’s house. He hears someone upstairs.  He is calling Taylor’s name and runs up the stairs and into her bedroom.  He finds Taylor with another man.  A man names Declan.  Mort stars yelling and getting angry, just like before, he…He wakes up.  He gets up off of the couch and walks back to his desk to hopefully finish his novel.  The most important part, the ending, is yet to be written.  The ending of a story is always the most important part.
