I'm standing in the forest, but I'm not really sure where.

It's dark, and cold, with trees stretching to the sky. Their limbs aching in the wind while they stood proud and menacing in the moonlight.

I listened to the leaves rustle, when there was the unmistakable snap of a twig.

My head whipped around to find a girl, standing in the same position I was.

The girl looked about my age, with dark brown hair and sun tanned skin.

She grinned lightheartedly when my eyes found hers, and my eyebrow cocked in question.

"Sucks for you," she said simply with an American accent, "could have figured things out at a better time."

Then just after that, I felt myself get pulled into reality.

I opened my eyes and found myself glancing out the window. The sun barely met the horizon, but I knew I wouldn't be able to fall back asleep.

Forcing myself to sit up, I pushed the dirty blonde strands out of my eyes, before standing and making my way to the bathroom.

When the light flicked on I winced, trying to adjust as I looked into the mirror.

Ugly blue eyes-check, terribly messy hair-check, too thin of a body-check.

I slapped the switch back down and left my bedroom, might as well have breakfast and make the best of another day in my full life.

Sighing as I reached the kitchen, the house elves had already piled my plate high, far away from the rest of the family.

I took my food with forced smile, and made my way back upstairs.

I'm definitely different.

I mean, I already knew that! My family was well bred, wed, fed, and read, but I just wasn't like that.

My dirty blonde hair and blue eyes contradicted their black locks and vicious grey eyes.

My guess is that I'm adopted, but mom won't tell me anything.

My family used to scream at me a lot. They'd say thing like, "Eli you're just a reject!" And junk like that.

I've survived 15 years of this, but at least summer is over tomorrow, then I can go back to Hogwarts.

Without anything left to do, I crammed my things into my trunk, snapping it shut with a click.

Then I began to hear footsteps running down the hall when my door slammed open.

"Hello there, brother of mine!" William shouted, "Already packed to go back to school? Didn't think you'd be smart enough to know how, Hufflepuff!"

I rolled my eyes, but ignored him.

"What? Not smart enough to-"

"No, no," my sister Abigail claimed stepping into the room, "He's just too weak to answer."

"Elijah! Come here!" I heard the commanding voice of my father yell at me.

I stalked out of my room until finding him in the hallway.

"Yes, sir?" I asked, gritting my teeth.

"Stop your fussing and shut up with the screaming! You're going to wake your mother," his gruff voice demanded and I did nothing but nod.

The rest of the day went on like this, me doing nothing then getting in trouble. It's great being a Veritas.

The next morning the giddiness to go back to Hogwarts fluttered around my chest and woke me up early morning.

By the time everyone was ready to go, it was nearing 10:45 when we apparated to the station.

Without saying goodbye to my rotten family, I scrambled onto the gleaming red steam train.

Finding my own seat, I realized I'd sit alone due to how my friend Lorcan was a prefect, and his brother Lysander was probably trying to sell The Quibbler.

Before I knew it, we arrived back at the glorious school I called home.

AAAH THAT WAS SO BAD!! I'm really sorry, but this was more of a filler chapter to introduce you guys to Eli and his family (kinda).
