Y/n POV:

I walked into my new dorm, only to see a very neat and organized room. Different from what I was expecting, but in a good way. I put my bags down. "Hello?" I called out. I heard footsteps that were followed by a tall, pale woman, probably around 19 years old. She had an asymmetrical haircut dyed somewhat brightish pink, and bright aqua eyes. She also had quite a few piercings, two on her upper ear with little black rings and one on her ear lobe which was just a regular black dot earring. She wore a black ACDC shirt and dark skinny jeans with holes in the knees.  "Sup, name's Jade." She said, putting her hand out. I flinched a bit at first, expecting a slap or a punch because of where I came from... But I was relieved that it was only a handshake. "H-hi, my name is (Y/n)." I said, shaking her hand quickly. She slumped back a bit, crossing her arms while leaning against a wall. "Make yourself at home, but I got dibs on top bunk." She said, smiling at me. I noticed that she had subtle bags under her eyes and her eyes looked slightly red and puffy. I knew what that meant all too well.. In fact I probably had really dark bags under my eyes and they were probably red and irritated as hell. Jade seemed friendly though. "My stuff is in the chestnut colored dresser, the white one is all yours. The left side of the fridge contains my food and stuff and you can put yours in the right side, and if you have any decor you can hang it wherever, as long as it's not covering up my stuff." She winked at me before walking to the fridge and grabbing a Mt. Dew. I looked around. Her space was very tidy, she had posters of MCR, Panic! At the Disco, The Hoosiers, and Tally Hall hung on the walls, she had cool little figurines and stuff on a shelf that was near her bunk. I smiled and looker at her. "I really like your posters, Tally Hall is one of my favorite bands." I said as the song 'Cannibal' immediately started to play through my head. Her bright eyes widened as she squealed with excitement. It was kinda cute.. "FINALLY! Someone else knows who Tall Hall is!! Almost none of my friends know it exists!" Jade climbed up the ladder and flopped on her bed, cranking up a playlist of her favorite Tally Hall songs, starting with &. She sung along with the song, being really good at it due to her lower than average voice that had a slight rasp to it. I danced along a bit, feeling so happy I wasn't being beaten and yelled at left and right. I unpacked what little I had, a few stuffed animals, my art supplies, my journals, some clothes, my phone of course, and a water bottle. Jade looked at what little I had. "Light packer, huh?" She said, curious to why I didn't have a lot of supplies. I mean, this is college. I panicked, but then lied and hastily said "Y-yeah.. I figured I didn't need that much.." I said as I put my clothes in my dresser. I flopped onto my bed, setting my art supplies and stuff on the nightstand next to my bed and arranged my stuffed animals on my bed. I went to the faucet and filled up my water bottle, setting it on my dresser. The song changed from '&' to 'Turn the Lights Off' and I started to sing along as I drew Jade in my sketchbook. "Dang, you're pretty good at singing (Y/n)." I got flustered for a moment, stopping as soon as she said that. "O-oh, thanks, you're pretty good at singing too." She laughed a little. "Well I kinda have to, my major is music. I'm part of a band, we're called The Seven Deadly Swans. I know the name is kinda weird, but we started in freshman year of high school and that was the best name we could come up with." I continued to draw. "No, I think the name is pretty cool. It's better than what I could come up with," I said with a bit of a laugh. Jade laughed too. She turned off the music. "Wanna hear me sing without background music?" She asked, jumping down from her bunk, grabbing her electric guitar. I set my sketchbook down, marking my page. I sat up and leaned against my pillow. "Sure, what're you gonna sing?" She thought for a moment, looking up. She then placed her fingers on the strings she needed. "Well, since we were listening to Tally Hall and '&' is one of my favorite songs, how about I do a cover of that?" She said, looking at me. I smiled. "Yeah, go ahead," She started strumming on her guitar and started to sing in a low, slightly raspy voice.
"Came back again
To make it clear that
He never said it would meet demand
Shame on a martyr
Claiming friends
From either perspective of &
Weak & strong &
Wet & dry &
Right & Wrong &
Live & Die &
Sane & Gone &
Love & Not &
All the &s that we forgot
Sing while you hear it
Don't deny it
Leave if you can't stand the thought of it
Come back again
To make things stand
With no disrespect to the &
High & Low &
New & Old &
Stop & Go &
Hot & Cold &
John & Yoko
Dark & Light
It's almost time to say goodnight"
She stopped singing and did a short guitar solo, hitting every not perfectly, never losing the beat. I was mesmerized. Jade started to sing again.
"They took a lesson
From their fathers
Told them they were the same command
Wait for their minds
To make complete
Their lives stuck beside every &
Words & Numbers
Sound & Silence
Stop the peace & Keep the violence
No & Yes &
We digress
It lives with sad & happiness
Oh god.."
She did another short guitar solo, this one being simpler.
"Big bad Betty of the 'pocalypse
She opens her lips & it goes like this
When the golden rule & the jungle meet
There'll be nothing to love &
There'll be no one to beat
Oh the things we know
The things we don't
The things we think we can will & won't
We're loath to gather that nothing's left
We're all together & we're all bereft
Capitalists & communists
You did the hokey-pokey & it went like this
You hate each other & you love yourselves
It might be heaven & it might be hell
Oh the things we do
The things we say
Oh the things we wish we could wash away "
Jade finished, immediately stopping every sound coming from her guitar. I was amazed. I applauded loudly. "Oh my god, that was amazing, Jade!! I can't sing like that, my voice is too high pitched. But wow! I can't wait to see when you're band becomes famous and you're a real professional singer!" She blushed a little, bowing and laughing as she put her guitar away. "Why thank you, (Y/n)." We both laughed and she flopped onto my bed next to me. I blushed a little, not expecting her to do that, and also flinched a little bit away from her. "So what's your major?" I cleared my throat, letting out a little exhale. "Art, though I'm not very good at it. It's what I really want to do, though I've never really had a lot of practice with it." She turned on her music again, but this time a bit quieter. "Cool, can I see one of your drawings?" I blushed a little. "U-uh... Sure," I said, flipping in my sketchbook to a good page. I finally found a decent drawing of one of my OCs. I showed it to her. "Holy shit, that's REALLY good. You definitely have natural talent if you say you didn't have a lot of practice." I blushed a bit at the compliment. "Thanks," I said smiling shyly. I was about to day something until I heard loud banging on the door. I flinched at the sound, having flashbacks to when my family would yell and bang on my door, only to beat me whether I opened the door for them or not. Jade noticed that I flinched and that I looked scared and she had a worried look on her face. She rushed to the door to open it, making me feel a bit better. I then noticed I was shaking. "Who are you and what do you want?" She said to whoever was at the door. I turned to look and saw two boys. One was easily taller than both me and Jade, and he had olive skin, darkish brown hair that covered one of his piercing green eyes, and was wearing a grey hoodie and black, ripped jeans. The other boy had longish chestnut colored hair and pale skin, he was shorter than Jade but taller than me, he had silver eyes, and wore a greyish dark green t-shirt with a tan jacket, and regular blue jeans. "Yo, chill, just wanna say hi to our neighbors. I'm Kody, and this short stack is Jace." The brown haired boy said, or should I say Kody. Jace blushed and turned to Kody. "I am NOT short! I-I just.. Shut up!" Kody laughed, putting his hands in his pocket. "Calm down Jace, you always get so worked when I call you short." Jace cleared his throat. "Anyways, what's your name?" Jace asked Jade. She put out her hand. "Jade, nice to meet you. Sorry for overreacting, just a little stressed. I mean, first day of freshman year in college." She said. "Oh,you're a freshman? We're both sophomores." Kody said. I just sat on the bed and watched. Jade signaled for me to get over there. I got nervous, but did it anyways. I walked over and stood beside her, brushing the hair out of my face. Kody and Jace smiled at me. "And who is this?"
