"I'm gay."

While looking in the mirror, Elle said these two words that she never thought she would.

After years of denial, she finally admitted it to herself. Soon later she told her loving parents and everyone accepted her for who she was.

wait... thats not how it happened... like at all

Elle grew up in a small town just north of new york city. This town was the polar opposite of the big city it neighbored. The people were all straight, white, and perfect (with the exception of the black family down the block and the gay couple just a couple minutes away). Not to be cheesy, but Elle had always known that she would never fit into the mold set out for her (despite trying desperately for the first 13 years of her life). She wasnt skinny, average looking at best, she got good grades but never the best, and her athletic ability was non existent. Elle constantly was changing herself to please other people. But thats all teen stuff. All of her friends went though it. It was normal. This wasnt.

Elle never liked boys. She never had a crush on one (except for that one she made up in the 5th grade to seem normal). She had never really thought much of it though. She had convinced herself that everyone had crushes at different times and the crushes she had on girls just meant she wanted to be friends with them. Discovering her identity wasnt helped by the fact that she went to a catholic school and her parents were very religious. Catholic school was where they turned the straight kids homophobic and turned the gay kids "straight". She learned that "homosexual desires are disordered and unnatural" and that "homosexuals must repent or they will burn for all eternity". Fun stuff.

This led to years of dismissal and fear towards her identity (shocker). But now, she was ready. Ready to come out. But its not that simple.
