When Sally was five when she had her imaginary friend, Lilly. Every time Sally went to sleep, Lilly would turn the lights and point her to the mirror.
"Look at the mirror and imagine a big tree, in a great green field." Sally would close her eyes and imagine a field of yellow and white flowers with a tree the size of a small house, and blue cloudless sky. Sally would open her eyes and see it in the mirror
"Walk in." Lilly would say," A mirror reflects you, and what you think of is a part of you, so the mirror reflects that." Sally didn't grasp the logic behind Lilly's words, but trusted her none the less. She put one foot in, then the other. Soon she felt the grass and flowers graze her foot. The only odd thing she thought of was that there was no sun, but there was still a warm feeling. Sally would frolic around in the field while Lilly would be sitting on the ground watching her. After a while Lilly would get up and start walking to the tree. Sally always thought she was different in her family, but here she felt free of her troubles.
At the stump of the tree there was a red door with a gold knob. The door lead to a big room under the tree, filled with tea, honey, vegetables, flowers, and so many pots and pan and dishes. To Sally, the home felt as if a bunny lived here, which seemed fitting because of Lilly's ears. Lilly had white hair, a blue eye, and a green eye, a nice green outfit with a purple horizontal stripe in the middle with a very creative flower sewn on the bottom. Sally always felt as if the world Lilly lived in was real, but Lilly's feet never touched the ground.
Sally recalled one time that she was with Lilly in the tree. Lilly picked a purple flower with a yellow center surrounded with white seeds and dropped it in a teapot. Then she looked through a small wooden box and dumped a lot of small red ovals into the teapot. Lilly called it Betel POP tea.
"Lilly." Sally asked, " Why don't your feet touch the ground." Lilly finished pouring Sally tea on her cup. Lilly always had tea, and sometimes apple juice. Her tea always smelled lovely and tasted sweet and made her feel warm and happy.
" Why, because my balloons have helium, so I float." Lilly had a left hand but not a right hand. Instead of a right hand, she had strings attached with balloons, that float." Sally, have you ever thought of where we are?" Lilly took a sip of her tea, waiting for Sally to respond. Sally shook her head, not understanding the purpose of the question." Okay, one day Sally, but I have another question for you, that is if you don't mind." Sally nodded hoping it would be less confusing than the last.
"What is it?" Lilly gave a loving smile.
"Would you like to go to the circus, it's not too far away, and I know the head of the circus personally, So, what do you say?" Sally had never gone to the circus, and this would be her first time, even if it wasn't for real.
" Yes, Yes I do want to go Lilly!" Lilly took another sip of her tea, looking delighted. They Confabulated more about Sally, and how today had gone, Lilly would always agree with Sally. Sally would have asked questions about Lilly, history, and other strange things. Sooner or later Lilly would get up from her chair. And head to one side go to room, where there was a nice bed that would take Sally home. Sally Went to the bed and tucked herself in. Usually Sally would pull the blanket over her head, count to ten and she would be in her room. Sleepy and happy she would sigh and sleep, but today was different. Sally was about to pull the blanket over her head, but Lilly held the covers.
"Sally, today. We talked a little too much, and you're a little late and we to get you home quick, so to just get you home in time, we'll use the pillow. With this pillow you only have to count to four, and you'll be home, Okay?" Sally nodded eagerly and Yawned, giving a mixed emotion signal to Lilly of weather she was tired or energized. Sally lied down on the bed and put the pillow over her head. She counted to four, and for a moment, but only for a moment she felt a chill, and right after she felt warmth around her.
