Chapter one
"My name is Carter..I'm 17..and I have stage 3 Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia" I told the group nervously. Yes, I have cancer. Yes, I'm in support group. And yes oddly enough this sounds like The Fault In Our Stars, but I can insure you it's not.
"How have you been doing Carter?" The leader asks. The leader of our support group is a woman who looks like she's in her mid 30's and she's been cancer free her whole life. Lucky her.
"Well..besides the cancer I guess I'm doing alright." Then they do the whole "We're here for you" ordeal and other people very willingly shared their cancer stories and then we ended the meeting with prayer as they did every session. I was really glad to get out of there and to just get home. I really wanted food.
"So how was support group? Was it some life changing experience?" My mother asks me as I enter the car. I just giver her the "you're probably the dumbest person for saying that" look. "Oh I'm sure it wasn't that bad Carter."
"Oh but it was that bad. Worst actually." When we finally got home I changed clothes and made a sandwich before turning on the television and deciding to watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians because why not? About half way through the show my phone buzzed signaling that I had a text message.
From Miranda
Hey are you free next month on the 6th by any chance?
Miranda was my closest friend. We have known each other since before birth because our moms were best friends and got pregnant around the same time. But I'm older for the record so I rule all.
From me
I might be, why do you ask?
From Miranda
I may or may not have an extra ticket for a concert and I was wanting you to go with me.
From me
And who shall be performing at this concert you speak of?
From Miranda
One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer
From me
The bands you're constantly obsessing over and trying to get me to listen to?
From Miranda
Maybe...maybe not...
From me
Only because you're my best friend, I'll go with you.
So it turns out that she got the tickets pretty cheap because her moms coworkers son is friends with the venue owner and got us third row tickets along with backstage passes. But of course a cancer perk has been thrown in. The bands have been informed that I have cancer and they want to meet Miranda and I to try and make a very memorable time for me in my possible short life.
"Carter dinner is ready!" My stepfather calls from the dinning room. Is it dinner time already? I check the clock and it reads 6:30. Wow time goes by fast.
