Jasper

I don't sleep that night and in the morning, I leave before anyone notices I'm gone. I'm walking to school when a car pulls up next to me and stops. I freeze and see Hunter. "Hey..." I say shyly.
     "Hop in." He says.
I shake my head and keep walking.
"I thought you needed a friend."
I look around and rush into his car as he speeds off.
The bell for second period rings and I have to stand up at the front of class again. I sit back down as quick as I can when Hunter walks in and sits behind me. "How's your day so far?"
I don't answer, trying to keep up. I sigh when he pokes me in the back with his pencil. "C'mon..."
I shake my head and keep listening to the lecture.

I feel myself being shaken from the shoulder. I open my eyes to see that Hunter is standing next to me.
"You fell asleep...it's sixth period so, I think you should get home..."
"No." I stand up and walk out of the room and to my next class, feeling down and depressed like normal. I gaze out the window as it starts pouring rain and clouds starting moving in. I get permission to make a phone call before class ends, but I just skip out and try to find the office, not having any form of luck. I sigh and go to seventh period.
After school I go outside and just walk home. I try to see if cars are coming, but raindrops fall into my eyes and I can't hear very well. I decide it's okay to cross when the loudest noise infiltrates me and I get massive pain as everything goes black.

Hunter

I'm driving home when I here a car honking and look over to see Jasper as a car comes intact with him and he goes flying into traffic. I stop my car and jump out, running over to see what the damage is.
He lays there, unconscious no doubt, with his clothes a bit disheveled and his skin bloody.
I call 911 and scoop Jasper into my arms and into my car. I pull over and wait outside on the hood of my car for the police. I get down when they get there and ask for my statement. "I saw him walking and he just didn't realize cars were coming...but I...saw the person trying to slow down and trying to warn and help him when it happened...I need to go with him, please..." I say as they load with into the ambulance. "He's my neighbor and he needs someone...I have zero idea if he even has parents."
The officers nod and I run to the ambulance and climb in next to Jasper before they close the doors. I hold his hand, hoping he wakes up sooner than later.

The doctors rush in and out of his room as I pace outside it. I rub my arms and try to calm myself. I see my mom rush over and I hug her, scared to death. "They won't tell me anything..."
"It's okay...we'll find out soon..." She walks with me over to some chairs and sits with me. "Were the wounds bad?"
"Not scarring and just one gash on his forehead-"
A doctor comes out and looks at us. "Hunter Daniels?"
     I stand up. "Yes?"
"Do you know where Mr. Collins is?"
I shake my head. "I don't know. I just know Jasper is my friend, neighbor, and classmate."
     "Alright."
My mom stands up. "I'm Ms. Daniels, I work at a law firm."
     "You're a lawyer?"
She nods. "I would like to support the boy when he wakes up. I'll take his statement and stand by him."
     "We can arrange that."

"He's okay." Mom says when she comes from Jasper's room after waiting three hours and being in there for another two and a half hours. "He wasn't paying attention and he's still healthy. He needs stitches on his forehead but they want to wait until he switches medication from heavy to average...and that will be a week at most. Go home and eat after saying hello."
I nod and hesitantly go inside the room.
"Hunter?" He says, obviously sleepy from the medicine. "Thanks..."
I nod and walk over. "I will be back, okay?" I smile. "I have to go, but get rest."
He laughs a little and closes his eyes.
I leave the room and hold back tears for my dear friend and go home, listening to my lawyer of a mother- quite literally.
