Book I - Chapter 1

Part 1: "The Current Nightmare"

It was cold and stormy, and the moon was setting. Primrose sat in her room, staring out the window as it rained. The room was dark, only being illuminated by the dim moonlight. A warm orange glow filled the room as the door creaked open, a silhouetted figure stepping inside.

"Primrose, do you need to talk? About.. What happened?" a familiar voice spoke. The figure shut the door behind him, letting the warm light fade away against the moonlight.

Primrose turned to face the figure. It was Vincent, leader of the rebellion squad.

"Talk about what? How I got Sebastian killed? There's no point in talking." she replied, glancing over towards the man who stood in her dark doorway.

"You didn't get Sebastian killed. He just wouldn't focus on Brody. That was-"

"that was what? His fault? You know how he was! He didn't know! Honestly Vincent, it seems like you didn't even care!"

Vincent went quiet for a moment, letting out a small sigh underneath the cloth that covered his mouth.

"that's what I thought. You've got nothing to say." Primrose spoke, angrily before turning back towards the window. "You can leave now." she said harshly through her teeth.

"fine, I'll let you be ignorant, Primrose. I get it, you miss him, but we can't just drop everything to be upset. I miss him too, you know." Vincent replied, returning to the doorway to exit the room. Primrose turned to face Vincent again.

"I don't expect us to drop anything. I just wish there was a little more respect for him. Everyone is acting like nothing happened, and something did. Sebastian is DEAD, Vincent. He died in an illegal battle arena, alone. To a cocky stranger." She snapped, glaring at him as he stepped towards the door. Her comment stopping him in his tracks.

"You act like I wasn't there, Primrose. I watched him die too. We all did. But Brody is dead. I killed him. So what more do you want?" Vincent spoke, trying to keep his calm.

Primrose said nothing, only shaking her head softly as she stared out the window.

"Okay. Be that way. Let me know when you're ready to talk." Vincent continued, leaving the room as Primrose let out a heavy sigh.

She wasn't going to let Sebastian die in vain.
