On January 24th, two babies were born into the world; a boy, and shortly after, a girl. Their names are Apollo and Artemis, though they are not siblings, let alone twins. Apollo was born from the Eliopoulos family, while Artemis was born from the Iliopoulos family whom both share bonds with each other since their bloodline started. It was unknown why, but they learned not to question it.
Apollo, the oldest of the two, was a very silent and broody child who merely kept to himself, but didn't mind that Artemis hung around him; as long as she wasn't overly loud, then he was content in her presence. The said girl had always remained at the older boy's side, having this strange urge to protect boy even though she knew that he could take care of himself quite well.
When they had turned 7, he revealed just how strong he was, and it shocked the families on how talented the lazy boy was. At a local park, two 10-year-old boys approached them as they played with various toys that their babysitter gave them on grass, away from the other children, and one began pulling on Artemis short dark brown hair hard.
Gold eyes glared at the blond-haired boy pulling on his best friend's hair and flickered to the other boy that had picked up his toy car, tossing it up in the air and staring at him smugly with his piercing green eyes. Artemis gave an impressive growl, hazel eyes staring heatedly from the corner of her eye at the bully pulling on her hair. "Let go."
The blue-eyed boy huffed in response and tugged sharply, earning a pained yelp. "No way, brat." Apollo's eyes blazed as he slowly got to his feet before springing at the unsuspecting boy with unbelievable speed. The other boy with startling orange hair shrieked in surprise as his friend was tackled to the ground easily by a 7-year-old and pounded into with bony fists.
"Michael!" the red-head yelled and made his way to the fighting kids, ready to pull the smaller boy off his friend, but was stopped by the very same 7-year-old. Apollo jumped off Michael and swung around, cocking his fist back and throwing it at the green-eyed boy's shocked face. A loud crunch echoed in Apollo's ears before screams from a lady distracted him as the boy fell to the ground with a thud, wailing loudly.
"Richard!" a woman with the same colored hair came barreling past a stoic Apollo, and kneeled beside her son, hands waving franticly over the boy's writhing form. More people came running as the 7-year-old boy calmed himself with deep breaths and approaching the frozen Artemis that had fallen to her bum in shock and slight fear. He glanced at his fist that was dripping with blood before wiping it on his shorts, grimacing at the stab of pain that traveled up his arm. Apollo turned his attention back to the wide and unseeing pale green eyes of his only friend.
"Are you okay, Art?" his low voice snapped her out of her daze, and she nodded rapidly, taking his offered hand to bring herself to her feet. Three of the four parents glared over at them while they picked up their toys without a word, silently wondering where Carla was; she was their older cousin and babysitter after all.
"Where are your parents?" the enraged mother of Richard stood, holding the still crying and bleeding boy in her arms protectively. The father stood to her right and another couple, presumably the parents of Michael from their features, stood right next to them, holding the unconscious blonde in their embrace.
"Miss Monroe," Apollo murmured to himself, knowing that the woman had super-hearing. Controlled, graceful footsteps approached the group steadily, causing them to look over. There were a lot of people gathered around with their children by their side, staring at the altercation that was currently going on. A lone woman who appeared to be in her mid-teens, maybe late teens wearing dark colored shoes, light jeans, a black short sleeve shirt under her dark gray jacket. Long, dark hair was twisted up into a make-shift bun, several strands caressing her high cheekbones, and intimidating dark eyes glared at the parents that stood over her younger cousins.
"What's going on here?" She asked calmly as she stood protectively in front of Apollo and Artemis.
"That boy of yours broken my Richard's nose!" the red-haired woman shrieked angrily, bolding pointing her finger at Apollo, whom blinked back at her with apathetic gold eyes that glowed eerily in the sun.
"There must have been a reason for that," Carla arched a dark eyebrow, glancing at the two injured children before dragging her eyes back up to the woman. "Do you know what happened?"
Rage-filled green eyes darted to Apollo. "I saw Richard and Michael approaching these two before I continued my conversation with Sadie. Next thing I know, I glance over to see what they were doing, only to see him beating on Michael before going after Richard!" she explained, stressing on the word him with venom coating it.
The dark- haired woman hummed, looking back at Artemis and Apollo with a calculating look in her equally dark eyes. "Something must have happened in that small timeframe, Miss...?" she trailed off, wanting to know her name before she continued.
"My name is Jaqueline, and what exactly happened then?" she gritted her teeth. Carla made a gesture and Artemis slowly crept forward, glancing at Apollo for his approval. He merely nodded and turned his intelligent gaze back on Jaqueline.
"U-um, that boy with blond hair had started it."
The brown-haired woman stepped forward, kneeling down to Artemis' height so she wouldn't intimidate the young girl. "What did he do, honey?"
Tears filled her jade green colored eyes and dribbled down her chubby cheeks. "He pulled on my hair as the other one took Apollo's favorite toy without asking! He protected me!" she shouted, eyes glaring at the injured boys and still angry Jaqueline. "Apollo did nothing wrong!"
Carla hummed, placing her hand on the small girl's shoulder and brought her behind her again as she pathetically sniffled. Apollo pulled her into his arms and rubbed her messy brown hair to help calm her down, his eyes never leaving the adults. "It seems that it wasn't my cousins' fault. Maybe you should teach your children to stop bullying other children. Not all of them will just sit and cry about it," she suggested smugly as she grabbed both Apollo's and Artemis' hands, and pulled them away as the other parents began arguing amongst themselves.
That was only the beginning.
