Author's note: Wattpad published half of this chapter without the other, hence why I've had to publish it twice.

The pair walked home in silence from then on, each of them unable to find the words to describe their emotions. As they came up to the shack, the star put the book inside the vest Mabel had got him, and stepped inside.

"Ugh, you're back. I take it you couldn't find somewhere to get rid of him?" The star stepped closer to Mabel, and she actually stood up to her great uncle for him.

"If I remember correctly, we agreed that you'd stop intimidating him. So, I'd suggest you follow through with your promises." She held the star's hand. "C'mon. Let's go upstairs, Dipper!" And before her great uncle could get in another word, the pair went upstairs.

The young star could practically feel Stan's cold, hard stare, as if it were burning into the back of his head. He shuddered as he walked into the attic, and took out the book once more.

"So wait, you're really giving this to me?" Mabel nodded, her giant grin proudly displaying her braces. "It's all yours, Dip Dop!" She suddenly frowned. "No, that's not a good nickname. I'll think of something though!" She laughed and sat beside the star.

He flicked through the pages, asking Mabel about each creature as he went through. "Hey, who's this?" The page was stained red, and had an ominous silhouette of a triangular figure on it.

"I honestly don't know. I've never seen this creature...maybe he's one of a kind or something? Like, a super rare species?" The star stared at its single eye and shuddered

"Whatever it is, it creeps me out." He flipped the page again. "Woah."

Mabel nodded. "Whatever this one means, I have no clue...but it's not something I wanna waste time on. Not when I haven't gotten to show you this!" She flipped to the back pages to reveal a few entries of her own. "SHBAM! And look, I left space for you to put entries too!" She handed him a blue marker pen with a little pine tree on top. "I got it from the gift shop!"

Dipper laughed slightly. "Thanks Mabel. You're a great friend."

"You bet I am!" She laughed, and lightly punched Dipper on his arm. "But seriously, no problem." She sat on her bed and stared at the ceiling. "We should probably get to sleep now though." She clambered into her covers, and Dipper did the same. "Goodnight!"

"G'night Mabel..." he waited until he could hear her breathing hit a calm rhythm, before switching on a torch and looking though the book.

"Nope, not it...aha!" He opened up the page titled 'Fallen Stars' and begun to read.

Despite their human appearance and non-violent nature, a fallen star is a powerful creature, baring a serious threat to any foes. Thankfully for all concerned, they fall very rarely, and those who do are rarely strong enough to discover their power.

Fallen stars fit into three categories:

Shooting star: extremely weak powers, generally the equivalent of a baby when it falls. Unlikely to remember ever being a star, but will likely be able to connect more with other fallen stars.

Normal star: weak to medium power. Age varies to much for an average falling age. Tend to be lovers and charmers, but they don't really realise what's good or bad. I met one, and she did NOT understand morality. At all. Let's just say I need a new copy of most of my books after I suggested a camp fire.

Constellation: extremely powerful (and rare! The last one on record was in about 600BC!) research is...fuzzy at best on this subject, but according to legends, a fallen constellation would have a will of steel and a heart of gold. Like I said, legends. In my eyes, they'd pose a serious threat. If one ever found out it's magical potential, the resulting forces would be cataclysmic! A fallen constellation is DANGEROUS! Thankfully, they're so rare, you may never have the misfortune of enc-

He shut the book.

Dangerous...Stan was right about him. He wasn't good! What if he hurt Mabel?

He sat up, letting the book fall to the floor with a thud. It landed on the creepy triangle page...

A thought flew into the boy's head. Sure, he might hurt her...but what if he could protect her too! 'This town is full of terrible monsters and creatures...at least one of them ought to be on her side!'
He reasoned with himself, a grin spreading across his face as he put the book back upon the shelf.

He didn't have to be bad

He was a person now, and people make their own life choices.

He was going to be a hero! Or, at the very least...Mabel's hero. He looked back at the sleeping girl, who'd already shown him so much kindness. He was determined to pay her back for her hospitality.

Starting right now, he knew his two goals for the summer.
