My mind was made up. I would go to his office and I will find out the truth. Nothing will stop me from learning the truth. I have to know! I must! I need to know what's been hidden from me this whole time. My hand grasps the door handle. With a slight tug, I push the door outward and walk into the hallway. My eyes look both ways. My mind tries to decide which way to go. But, before I could make a decision, my eyes spot a shadow. Immediately, my head turns toward the shadow. When I do, it disappears through the left door.
A shadow. Someone's here. Without hesitation, I follow them through the left door. My feet quickly go down the staircases before me. A loud creak suddenly sounds nearby. My eyes look towards the source and see a door open. They must have went through there! I have to follow them! Quickly, my feet pick up the pace and head towards the door. Without a second thought, I head through the door. As I do, a question pops up.
Why are they running away? Are they scared? Or are they in a hurry? Or...? Hmm. Well, it could be anything really. But then again, considering they went through this long and dark passageway, I don't think they're trying to get anywhere important. So that rules out a hypothetical situation. But if they aren't in a hurry, then they must be scared. But why? I won't hurt them. Maybe if I see them, I should speak to them. Let them know I won't hurt them. Yeah... Suddenly, my ears pick up a soft yet familiar voice. That voice... is that...? A girl suddenly walks out. Her bright green eyes staring right into mine. Those eyes, and those clothes! That face! Is that... me?
"Who are you?" I ask, confusing flooding my voice. This girl, she wears the same clothes as me, her hair is the same as mine, but her eyes are different. They're green, a really bright green. The "Gift"... the "Gift" is trying to trick me again. I won't let it trick me! The girl's stern expression breaks out into laughter. She's laughing? What's so funny?
"Hey! What's so funny?" The girl's laughter suddenly ceases. Her eyes stare into mine with a look of amusement.
"Come on now Kit! You can't act so ignorant. You already know who I am. You thought about it just now. Stop being so ignorant." Ignorant? I'm not ignorant. In fact, I happen to know exactly what's going on here. This girl in front of me is the "Gift's" hallucination of me. This isn't real. Not by a long shot.
"I'll have you know I'm not ignorant. I know exactly what's going on here. You are but a hallucination of me. You're the "Gift's" next attempt at trying to trick me. You might as well should just disappear since I know what you're going to do" I said, anger beginning to course through my words. The girl's amused look fades away.
"Oh, so you do know then. Good. You're catching on." Yeah I am.
"Yes I am. Now just disappear already. You're wasting my time as well as my patience." The girl's amused look reappears.
"Really? I didn't notice" The girl says, sarcasm seeping through her words like butter. Seriously? Did she seriously just do that? You know what? I don't have time for this! I have to get up to that man's office. I don't have time to waste! Without another word, I push past the girl and attempt to walk away. But a strong hand grasps my shoulder.
"Where do you think you're going Kitana? We haven't finished our discussion yet." In vain, I try to free myself but it's no use. The girl's grip is too strong.
"I don't recall us having a discussion. Let me go" I say, my patience reaching its limits. A sigh emanates from the girl's mouth.
"Kitana, we need to talk." Talk?! That's what she wants to do?! Just talk?! She goes and wastes my time just to talk?! Is she serious?
"I don't want to talk to you about anything. There's absolutely nothing to talk about. Except, of course, you're annoying attitude. Leave me be" I say, my patience almost exhausted.
"Kit, we need to talk. Mom she..." I cut her off.
"She's not our mom anymore! She... she... She hid things from me. She lied to me my whole life! She..." I couldn't go on. Tears had begun to spill from my eyes. Sadness, anger, and everything in between burst out of me like a busted water balloon. A sob suddenly echoed from my throat. How could she do this? How could she?! I thought she loved me. More and more sobs began to ring out from my throat. Many tears began to flow down my face like raging river. My body, weak from the sadness, soon trembled.
"Kit, everything will be okay" the girl said, her strong grip softening. I shake my head. It won't. It will never be.
"No it won't. It won't be okay. I... I will never forgive her! Never! Not once." The girl sighs, her grip lifting completely from my shoulder.
"I see. Well, if you're dead set on it, I guess I'll be on my way then. And since I can't trick you anymore, I will no longer bother you. Farewell Kit." Without another word, the girl disappears. Relief goes through me like a tsunami. Good. I'm glad she's gone. No more hallucinations. What a relief! But I have to get going. I can't stay here and cry anymore. I have to go to the guy's office. Wiping my tears away, I proceed forward towards the truth.
