Broken Stiletto and Valentines

It was another day of work at the Kilam Corporations. It had been raining the whole day.

It was kind of bittersweet for me. It was valentines today and it was raining. Must be romantic to all the love birds out there, but for me, it was as if the sky was crying because of my loneliness, or maybe just mocking me because I was alone..

I had been working here for the past three years. I started working as an intern and after a lot of hard-work, I became the CIO.

Since I was not expecting rain, which had started at 10 in the morning today, I was dressed in formal wear and black stilettos. I did not bring an umbrella or raincoat.

It was already past 9 pm. Way end of office hours. But I stayed back since I had some extra work to do. It wasn't an easy job. In fact, I loved my job. It was the only place where I could be myself. I had no one judging me for the work I did. Well yes, I had my boss of course. But I didn't have any issues that followed me to work. Issues that I used to run from. Office was the only place I found my peace at. Strange, but I did.

I was done by 9:30 and was leaving. I locked up my office, closed all the lights and left. I entered the elevator and pressed the ground floor button. I reached and exited the building. Since it was raining heavily, and I was in high-heeled stilettos, I had to try to make a run to my car. I was running, shielding my head with my bag, when suddenly I twisted my leg and fell on the floor. I was wet as a kitten. I tried getting up. But alas! A broken stiletto awaited me and I lost my balance again.

Seeing me in such daze, the security guard came up to help me and took me back inside the building. I requested him to help me to the elevator. I thought it would be better and safer to stay in my office. He helped me to the elevator. I pressed my floor button and waited for reaching there. I was 6 floors away from mine, when the elevator doors opened up. The person who entered was none other than the CEO, my boss, Mr.Kilam himself. I suddenly became nervous as hell. Who wouldn't? I was wet, messy and distorted as hell.

He entered and his first reaction was shock. He knew me, yet the way he was watching me was as if he saw me for the first time.

The elevator doors closed and soon started ascending. But alas! It stopped with a jerk. I was scared shit. He rang the alarm bell. But luck wasn't on my side today anyway, there was a sudden blackout.

I was scared and distorted and every fiber in my body wanted to cry.

I was breathing heavily and on the verge of panic attack maybe, I had my eyes closed and was clutching the railing with one hand and other my purse.

Soon, I felt a hand rubbing my arms and trying to calm me down. I opened my eyes to find 2 hazel orbs staring at me with worry. I had to admit, he was a young, dashing, smart, handsome as hell looking man. He was just 2 years older than me. But that's beside the point. I had worked my arse off to get to this point. And he was handsome as hell. Those eyes and damn...i would die to get those amazing long eyelashes. With the times I've sat with him for meetings, he was a very polite, well mannered and respectful man. He didn't have any woman in his life as far as I knew. I had hardly seen him with any woman in the past three years.

And I found myself relaxing a bit after a few minutes. I found the courage to open my mouth to thank him when he bet me to it, "are you scared of the dark Ms.Aden?"

I was stunned; I didn't expect that question at all. But it would be rude not to answer. So I did, "ummm... yeah" I replied shying away. No one knew that I was scared of the dark, not even my own parents knew that. He just nodded his head in reply and went back to calling someone.
