'good as gold'

Task: Write a story titled 'Gold' (shouldn't be literal) 

Include- 1 character, an accident, a symbol that occurs 2-3 times, an animal/sound, no dialogue (unless internal dialogue)

Stumbling through the crowd of students, I remember the sense of accomplishment I felt as I faced my classroom door, with it's room number on a big gold star.

I took a deep breath before stepping into the room.

My life had been different after the fire. It was early morning and I was jolted awake to the sound of my mother's piercing screams with instructions rush out the house.

The fear and anxiety I felt when I saw the monstrous flames wolfing down the house will forever haunt me. It was soul-crushing to see your childhood home burning down at the tender age of 10.

Suddenly a painful howl broke through the air.

My heart stopped when the thought of my dog captured inside the house flashed through my head. With a rush of adrenaline, I charged into the house to rescue him.

I had rushed in, only to see him cowering away from the flames slowly eating away the wood, like a cheetah waiting for its prey. I leapt and grabbed him but as soon as I turned to escape, a huge flame came onto my path causing me to trip and a long piece of burning wood to knock my face and fall onto my leg.

I was left with third-degree burns on my face and leg and a safe dog. It was a miracle that we came out safe and my face scars will forever be a reminder.

I could feel the stares burning my skin as I walked into the classroom and took my seat, only to have felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked over to see a girl with a big card. She declared that the entire class had made it for me while I was away. It was covered in gold stars, each to congratulate me on my bravery as explained by her.

My heart leapt with joy. I finally felt good as gold.

p.s : 

The phrase "good as gold" means that something is valuable or positive. The phrase "gold star" is used to signify praise, accomplishment, and commendation.
