Deafening music blared out through the speakers as her eyes danced around the room. It wrapped around her and blanked out everything else. The past six months.

Her thoughts. Her memories. Him.

No. Not again.

She immediately grabbed her drink and took a sip to regain her bearings.

She looked around the room again: sweaty bodies continued to bump and grind against each other on the dance floor.  It was as if they didn’t have a care in the world. An attractive couple caught her eye and she watched the woman encircle her arm around the neck of the man behind her. He nuzzled her neck and the woman closed her eyes in apparent ecstasy.

She closed hers too. And, just like every other time darkness consumed her, his face appeared. A light in the middle of nothing. He was smiling; sporting her favorite grin on his lips. Unconsciously, she returned it and in that moment, she forgot that she lost her right to feel.

She opened her eyes and locked eyes with him. She did not notice until now that she was watching him and he was watching her. She stared, hypnotized, even as he pulled his companion closer. His gaze never wavered and she found she knew her cheeks were now flushed.  It has been a long time since she has last seen him, and she wondered if she would always feel this way.

So lost in her thoughts, she had not even realized that he already made his way towards her. He waved a waiter over to her, their, table and ordered their usual  drinks.

“Fancy seeing you here.”

She shrugged. “It’s my day off.”

“Don’t lie.”  He chuckled bitterly. “I know you cancelled your appointment because you didn’t want to see me. You didn’t have to. I wasn’t going to attend anyway.”

“That’s a surprise,” she muttered sarcastically as she eyed the scar on his face. “You’re supposed to be the ultimate professional.”

“I got tired of it,” he said as he took a sip of his neat whiskey. “It was a relief at first, you know.I played different lives just so I can forget about mine. Or should I say, so I can forget about you?”

She bit her lip. “Ah- “
“Don’t.” He waved her off. “I didn’t mean anything by it.”

Silence fell between them.

Few moments passed and she was about to excuse herself when he suddenly grabbed her to his chest as a fight broke out just 2 seats away from them. A group of people rushed past them and things quickly escalated from there. She heard the sound of glasses breaking and did not even resist when he pull her out of the seat.

“Let’s get out of here,” he said and she had no choice but to follow.

They squeezed their way through the crowd who were trying to rush out of the door. She started to brace herself to be hurt when he put his arms around her, pulling her face against his chest.

Still so selfless, she thought to herself. After all this time, he’s still protecting  her.

---

She didn’t know what happened but somehow  they ended up here, in his, their, house, kissing and nipping and ripping each other’s clothes off.

She knows that this shouldn’t happen. Not now, not ever. But how can you stop something that’s wrong but feels oh so right? She already told him a lot of times. She could never resist his attentions.

“R-“ she began but a bite on her bottom lip stopped her. She tried again. “We should stop.”

“I know. But I can’t,” he said before pressing his lips to her forehead. He then pulled back to whisper on her ear, his hot breath sending a shiver down her spine. “One last time for old time's sake? Please?”
