Chapter One

It was a day like no other, the rain slapped the ground violently and the wind hissed at the earth with vengeance hidden in its eyes. The leaves rapidly flew everywhere as if they tried to blind others and many ran frantically with their hoods up ushering their children along to the small, cosy, warm cars they owned. With bright smiles on their faces dressed in bright yellow raincoats and wellington boots they tried to jump in each puddle they passed, but were only tugged away. They were allowed the fun they deserved, playing in the mud and climbing trees. Running till the heart can't take any more while getting scrapes and bruises they would cry about until mummy kissed it better. That is what childhood was, but they didn't get that. No. They were tugged around and forced to do things they didn't enjoy like eating Brussels sprouts or having to go to bed while it was light outside in the summer.

I experienced all of that.

I wish I hadn't, maybe that's what made my childhood so unforgiving. What lead to my parents death. Never the less, it always lingered on the back of my mind and how I was responsible for it. Why, the logical idea was to move country but instead we moved just a few hours away from home and settled down ever since. We? We is myself and my aunt, Leah.

"Maxie" she sighed sitting down beside me, next to the window, she rubbed her hand up and down the small of my back soothingly "stop thinking about it, please, for the best" she sent a small smile towards me before standing up and brushing herself down "come along now. I'll make you a tasty plate of pancakes while you get ready for school"

Knowing this was non-negotiable I nodded slowly and dragged my feet along the floor. It was one of those days for me, the ones where I struggle to even get out of bed in the morning ,yet, I had managed to today. With each step my heart felt heavier but being the great warrior I am, I fought through it. I brushed through my brown locks and slipped into a casual hoodie and leggings. With my hair in it's signature messy ponytail and my converse on ready to go, along with things like my teeth, I headed back down to munch on some pancakes.

"Oops" she giggled looking at the batter splattered all over the floor. I let out a stifled laugh before sending a mocking glare at her

"What am I meant to eat now?" I mocked with a teasing smile over my face as she continued to giggle senselessly before handing me a £20 note.

"Have fun" she called out to me as I slammed the door behind me. Subconsciously, despite the fact I knew it was raining, I stuck my hand out so see if it would get wet. I glanced hastily from side to side before pulling one of my school folders from my bag and holding it high above my head. Without another thought I ran through the rain, wiggling my hips from side to side as I ran I approached the bus stop with high speeds.

In the distance, I could see my friends Cass and Alexa. The two held hands securely as they spoke closely under an umbrella they shared. The two had been dating for some time now, maybe 3 or 4 months but never the less they always included me in stuff outside of school like rock climbing or going out for dinner and they never rubbed it in my face either. Alexa, my closest friend, has long dark hair which landed just below her bum. Her skin had no blemishes and her eyes were a sparkling blue colour, one that blew others away. Cass has blonde highlights in his hair and was around 6'0. His eyes were a chocolate brown which intoxicated people, well that's how Alexa described him anyway.

"You look like a drowned rat" Alexa laughed pulling me under the umbrella with them which, to my surprise, was rather cosy. Cass held the black shelter above our heads as we waited for the bus. A small laug escaped my lips before I looked over to her as she stood leaning against Cass

"Haha very funny, you look like someone who should've joined the circus" I blew a small kiss in her direction as she stuck her tongue out at me playfully.

"I just look fabulous" Cass muttered under his breath before flicking his hair ever so slightly. Locking eyes, Alexa and I both fell into a fit of laughter. I clutched my stomach and took deep inhales as the bus started to approach us.

"Aw baby" she cooed kissing his cheek "if that helps you sleep at night my love"

"It does actually" he muttered playfully stepping onto the school bus as we followed closely behind him. I signed contently before sitting in front of them and pushing my earphones in, wanting to forget about the problems in the world

"I'll see you after P.E" I sighed towards Alexa who nodded and headed off to her drama lesson. Cass, being the type of friend he is, slung his arm over my shoulder as we trailed along the halls. I leaned my head against his shoulder gently as many pierced their eyes into us most likely trying to think of petty rumours to come up with again

"I hate P.E" I grumbled quietly so only Cass could hear me. Shaking his head he sent me the smile I had grown to love before speaking

"You can do it, we are doing football today I think" he inquired while furrowing his eyebrows. He had a tendency to do that when he wasn't sure of something, he would just furrow his eyebrows down which made him look so cute sometimes. Now before you get ahead of yourself, no I don't like Cass. I used to, but not anymore.

"Look at what the bitch dragged in" a snarl spat from behind us, acid and icicles falling with every word they spoke. She was like a snake, a venomous snake who was hungry for prey and luckily enough, mainly for me, I was it.

"Hello Danni" I sighed whisking around, pulling Cass along with me who's arm stay locked around my shoulder for protection.

"Ugh don't speak to me" she hissed, hatred hinted in her hideous tone. Ignoring me, she pushed me aside and placed a kiss to Cass' cheek before peering over his shoulder and then even pushing him away "harry baby!"

She ran up to him and threw her tentacles around his neck, locking him in an inescapable grasp before placing a huge, sloppy kiss to his lips. Being the guy he is, he kissed back hungrily for more.

Harry Styles. Emerald green eyes which would make Mother Nature jealous and gorgeous brown locks anyone would die for. A height so towering you may get scared as he stepped towards you and a smile so deceiving you wouldn't realise what or who he was. Harry Styles; the schools biggest player. He had slept with every girl, well every girl apart from me that is. I had always admired him from afar but up close, deep down, he was evil. Nothing but concrete.

"Danni I need to get past" he spoke, his thick British accent ringing throughout the halls, Cass also came from England, "I need to speak to that angel over there" he winked at me.

I almost threw up in my mouth yet I almost fainted with joy.

"Ugh her?! Please harry get some taste, she'd be better off dead" Danni cackled before turning around and scratching me violently, as if it was normal for her. Blowing her nails she sent me a bitter wink and strutted away. Gently I placed my fingers on my face but winced, blood.

"I'll get her to the nurses office, you get to your lesson" Harry instructed but Cass stepped in front of him

"I got it man" he spoke placing a hand on his chest and pushing him back slightly. Looking defeated he turned to walk away but threw his head over his shoulder

"One day Maxie May" he tutted shaking his head, his eyes still draining my own "One day you'll fall for me

Then he walked through the empty halls.
