I've been tossing around this scene for a while and plan on making it into a full story. Should I do this, then reading this will give away the entire book. If you would want to read said book without spoilers, skip this chapter. -MagiBat
Purple, Anti and Chris's Location
Purple, Anti and Chris watched from the observance room, nervous and angry and unable to do a thing. They we're gonna kill Dem. Kill her, or worse. They wanted to turn her into a monster. Something so ruthlessly bloodthirsty and soulless that it does what its told and doesn't hesitate to kill. Dem has had some demonic qualities for as long as she can remember, forced into her by she and Purple's shitty father. They planned on building up these genes until they overpowered all else. But they didn't want to hurt Dem, as the process of giving the injections, and conducting the experiments needed would be much easier if she would cooperate. They wouldn't harm her physically, but they had other ways.
Dem's Location
"NO! That's impossible!" Dem shouted. "Denial is the first stage of grief, Miss Magipiece." One of the scientists, they all looked the same at this point, said calmly. "No! That's a lie! This entire thing is a string of twisted lies!" She was screaming through tears now. Anti, hanging to life by a thread. No, Dem shook her head, attempting to clear her thoughts. That couldn't happen. Or was she too weak, too far from Anti to lend her some of her own, usually never-ending energy? It didn't feel never-ending. Dem was tired. So, so tired. Anti could be hurt, but not killed, not so easily pushed to that point. She knew that. They had also told her that Purple was dead. She had laughed the first time, God knows how long ago that was. Days? Weeks? Or had she only been here a few hours? Dem had lost all perception of time, watching the too-fast clock tick away, from her cell. But the idea was being ground into her head. Anti couldn't die, neither could Purple. She knew that. Did she? They had shot so many narcotics into her, she couldn't remember how many hours passed from time to time, she was just trying to stay wake. Don't sleep, don't sleep. If you sleep, they can have their way.
This wasn't like her. She didn't give up. She wouldn't let herself. Dem looked around. She was in a large, hospital-looking room, her small cell in the middle of it. Her miss-matched eyes wandered around until she located a security camera near the ceiling in one of the corners. She stared it down. Bingo, that's where they were. "Anti! Purple, Chris!" She called out, hoping they could here her. That's exactly what a super villain would do, right? Make friends and family watch? Of coarse! Dem felt sorry for them, watching helplessly for however long she had been in this terrible prison. They're probably worried about her. She wasn't the monster she was supposed to be, and thank God for that fact.
Purple, Anti, and Chris's Location
"Don't give in yet, Feathers." Anti said to the screen that took up half the wall. Chris had gone werewolf and began to pace in circles around the room, and Purple was brutally slashing the wall. Anti gasped as Dem seemed to stare straight at her, a light in her eyes kindling as she came to the realization that friendly faces might be behind the camera. "Anti! Purple, Chris!" Dem's hopeful voice was playing through the speakers into the room. It had caught all three of their attentions. Chris and Purple rushed over, watching the screen intently. "Can she see us?" Purple asked, showing more emotion then he usually did for Dem. "No," Chris responded, "but she has the right idea. Knowing there's someone watching, and that we might be that someone, could give her just what she needs to keep her head up. Just that fact that we're okay." Dem was still staring when her eyes flickered red. "Huh?" Chris inquired. "Anti, was that you?" "No, I'm too far away to give her any power, but she can't be more then a few rooms away, I'm sure of it."
Dem's Location
Dem was keeping a better record of the time now. It had been two days since she found the camera. She hid her spark of happiness well, it wasn't hard to do when she scanned her surroundings. Apart from watching the clock, she was tracking time like a caged animal. Two days. Seven trays of food delivered. Thirty-two cups of coffee (She hated the taste, but it was keeping her awake). Twelve flickers. She could do it today. She would do it today. But not now. Not yet.
Purple, Anti, and Chris's Location
They all had been watching for most of the night, switching off every few hours in case they wanted to sleep or needed to use the bathroom. The exit was locked and blocked on the outside, and even Purples attacks bounced off, but there was a bathroom and kitchen in the room. Anti had caught on to what Dem was doing, but she didn't tell the others, in case Dem couldn't do it. That scientist was there again, asking Dem the same questions he always did, and receiving the usual answers. All except for the last question. "Are you ready to cooperate with us, Miss Magipiece?" Dem's voice was quiet and dull as she responded, barely audible to the group. "Yes." The group watched as the man smiled. "Good. I am glad you've realized what you are, deep down inside. You have an acute and killer instinct, no matter how far underground you've buried it." He unlocked the cage, and Dem stepped out, head hung low as she stretched her wings. "You're right. Deep down inside, I'm a monster..." Chris and Purple watched, horrified as Dem walked a few steps along side the man, timid and grey. "They've done it..." Chris half-whispered. "They finally got to her." And then something happened, a bright flash of magic, and a blur, and a body. "She did it!" Anti yelled at the top of her lungs, scaring the other two.
Dem's Location
Dem stepped forward, walking slowly with the man as she stretched her wings. She stared at the ground, thinking. Concentrate, Dem! "You're right. Deep down inside, I'm a monster..." She said sadly. Then she whipped her head up as her eyes flickered before staying a solid, bright red. A mass of bright, magenta-orange magic engulfed her arm, darkening to a shadowy black as the claws formed. As soon as they were corporeal, she tore the man to shreds. She flew up to the camera, grabbing it and looking straight through the lens. Her eyes went back to there usual colors "I'll be there soon, I think I can take whatever they have waiting for me! But if I don't, Chris, make it sound like I died doing something awesome! And Anti, take Purple's cookies for me." Dem smiled, pure happiness at the thought of seeing her friends again, just as soon as she found them. Her eyes flashed back to red, and she tore the camera out of the wall.
