I was falling. No, floating, drifting in a place that seemed full of nothing. I couldn't see, I couldn't hear, I couldn't even think, but I could feel. I could feel a horrific pain racking my whole body. It was in my skin, my muscles, my very bones. On my face, my ears, head and chest. And my legs, mostly my legs. But I couldn't move, or scream, or writhe or wriggle as I would normally. All I could do was float there in pain. Then a bright light came into my vision, and one single thought came to my head.

Am I dead?

Then I came to. My senses started to come back. My eyes focused and I saw the sight of our bedroom that I had seen before I had blacked out, except there was ripped fabric everywhere, and the sun was now shinning through the triangular window rather than the full moon. I was just lying on the floor, sprawled out, but there was definitely something different. My legs felt.. Off. So did my head. My whole body felt weird. And itchy. I realised my whole lower half felt really itchy. I stretched my arm down to scratch it... And felt fur!

I peered down at my legs, only to find that they weren't even there anymore! Deer legs were in the place of my human ones, hooves and all, and my body didn't even end there, it kept going. Another whole torso covered with spotted fur, leading to two more legs and a little fluffy tail. I screamed.

I must have passed out again, because I woke up... Again. I blinked then remembered the horror I had just felt. I hoped to god that it had just been a dream, but sure enough, when I looked down, the deer body was still there.

My kid was racing, my heart beating faster than ever. I couldn't think of what to do. What could I do? So I decided the best thing would be to at least try to stand up.

I tried to move the strange legs. They did what I wanted them too, but it still felt so irregular with a whole extra pair! I put my hands on the ground and pushed up. The front deer legs moved forward and pushed up as well, and then the back followed. As soon as I was up, I felt my new knees buckle and I fell to the ground with a thud. I repeated this process until I finally managed to keep my balance. I was wobbling a little too much for my liking. I tried to put on foot, er, hoof, in front of the other and make my way across the room, but the hooves stumbled and slipped a little on the wooden floors. I felt like a baby taking its first steps, or maybe a fawn. My little tail twitched and stood on end.

I noticed my blue hat lying on the ground. Oh no, how was I going to get that now? I tried to stretch my arm down and, to my surprise, the front legs bent down and knelt while the back legs stayed so my butt was sticking in the air. Once I had picked it up, the legs straightened out again so I was standing back up. This wasn't as hard as I thought. Still hard though.

Suddenly everything clicked. The grass, the speed, no meat, feeling nervous around commotion, it was because I was turning into a deer. And I was so tired because my body had been busy changing for a couple of days.

I heard a faint gasping sound coming from downstairs. At first this didn't make sense, since I couldn't possibly hear such a faint noise coming from all the way at the bottom floor, but it had been a weird day so I just decided to accept it. Then I remembered something. Mabel! I stumbled quickly out of the room and tried to run down the stairs but of course the deer legs found this difficult. I tripped over the first step and tumbled all the way down to the ground, where I found Mabel lying on the floor.

She had also had a huge makeover. Her ears looked like fish fins, her fingers had webbing in between, but what surprised me most was the long, bright pink tail of a fish that completely replaced the lower part of her body, yet she was still wearing her sweater. I realised that the noise was her trying to breathe. She was wheezing and her eyes were trying to open.
