The sun beaming down on their heads, Sonya covering hers with her hands, the two teenagers proceeded down the street.
"It's a little warmer out than when I left the house.." She mumbled, due to having long black hair her head heated up rather quickly, Sam felt the same discomfort,
"Yeah." He said in agreement, using the yellow pad to shield his eyes. Sonya had glanced at the object a few times but, being the person she was she never asked about why it was there,
"Anyways, my parents know that I left, do yours?" She asked then as she had been planning for the two of them to walk around town where she hoped they wouldn't run into someone particular,
"No, I just kinda walked out of the house, it doesn't matter, unless Whitley brings me up or tries to get me in trouble I highly doubt my father will realize I left." He spoke as if he was okay with this, in fact his voice held no leverage and was rather light and airy,
"Lucky, I had to do so much just to leave my house, you know my mom, she made me wear this dress too and it's so long and so hot.." She said as they walked into the shade, with a sigh, her hands ruffling her straight hair in front of her ears for she feared that she would run into a few of her classmates from school. Sam didn't really know how to reply so he simply kept his mouth shut as he walked beside her, one of his hands in his pant pocket. "Anyways, we don't do this often so I'm sure you can infer why I went to get you." She said as she glanced over to him, Sam nodded as he looked up at his pad and then brought his hand down to his side,
"Yeah, I got stuff for that too." He replied, a drag to his voice as he wished that Whitley wasn't involved in this though, he most likely wouldn't bring him up,
"Mrs. Noctis is printing out 'missing' papers in the library, I spoke with the family after school, Dante really is missing huh?" Her eyes were glued to her feet, and she was holding her own hand, Sam was unable to see Sonya's face as her black hair was blocking it, "I hope Whitley is doing what he said he would because Harper's gonna be devastated when she finds out, I'm really worried for her.."
"He's not." Sam said, he watched as Sonya tensed up a little before she stopped walking and turned to him,
"What, what do you mean he's not, Harpers not gonna know any better, t-that's not... Ugh!" She said as she kicked the tree behind her, the girls' hands against her head, "She trusts him too much, y'know she walked home with today and she speaks to him like he's her... like he's her hero." Sonya folded her arms and quickly started walking again,
"Don't worry, I did the research for him. There was no way I was going to let Harper objectify herself for a broken promise." Sam said lifting the pad up so that he could look at the things he wrote, "I hate to say it but, it looks like Harper was right. I found Dante's file in a testing document, and seeing as his parents are fretting for him I highly doubt he did this with any permission.." He turned the pad over to Sonya who looked over it a few times, Sonya took a few deep breaths before looking both ways walking across the crosswalk, making sure that Sam was beside her,
"I don't care what we need to do, we are getting Dante back and we are going soon. Next week is finals, we skip school tomorrow and utilize the weekend. Three days is all it should take." She said mostly to herself as she tapped the pad against her hand with a slight smile, looking up towards the sky, her eyes looked like they were watering but Sam really couldn't tell.
"I can't just get up and leave, we don't even know where Dante is."
"Does it matter?" Sonya turned to him, ignoring the sparse amount of people who were around them, "Find out where this testing facility is and we go, once Dante is back... Things will go back to normal." She spoke nodding her head and seemed rather confident in herself, and looked a little less ridiculous as she moved in sleeves that were too long for her arms, "You got into your father's laptop once, it can't be too hard to do it again."
"Sonya, I want to help you... I really do but-"
"But what? Dante is in trouble and you're just going to let him stay and be tested on?"
"We don't even know if anything bad really happened to him, it could just be-"
"Don't fool yourself, you know that he's not okay and if you cared about him at all-"
"Don't say that."
"-you'd help save him and save Harper. Okay?"
"Okay, we'll take Whitley's car, he has a drivers license and can take us whenever I find out where this place is, plus he looks almost exactly like my father so he can get us in with ease." Sam knew that he had no chance in convincing Whitley into taking him and Sonya without having to do something or promising him that he'd do some inane task for his enjoyment and yet, Sam found pride in it and would happily do anything for the sake of Sonya, Dante, or Harper... he just needed some motivation to deal with his brother for a second time today. With finals approaching, he knew it would be near impossible, Whitley didn't take his grades for granted, after all, he was almost promised to get a reasonable job working in the agency since he has an almost perfect GPA.
"Sam?" Sonya said looking up at him, her arms at her side, "I need things back to the way they were, I-I.." She took a deep breath, her hand pushed against her chest, "I should be getting home."
The two of them walked back to their homes together as they further discussed plans, knowing full well that Harper would be coming along as well and that they would need to know what they would do if they were caught. When Sam departed to his house, Sonya lingered in his driveway for a few seconds as she read over the license plates on the cars in the garage for a few seconds. Shivering ever so slightly as she rubbed her arms, her hair blowing to her left as it was now tucked behind her ears. Slowly backing away and passing her missing friends house she waved though there was no one on the porch, as she expecting to spot his mother. Sighing and holding herself, Sonya walked inside of her house, made herself some jade tea and sat in the study tracing the locations in which certain people traveled. Specifically searching some plate numbers as well as governmental numbers for, Sam had written down the van he had spotted collecting people.
When her parents came calling she dismissed them in terms of extra credit and homework, the yellow pad filling in with numbers and locations. Though, 'Opt. mistic- testing' was never found.
