Prom was in twenty days and Charlotte had nobody to go with still. She sat at the lunch table alone waiting for her friends to come. They both had prom dates and she didn't, she had never felt more alone.
"Hey!" Amber said sitting next to Charlotte. "Where's Lizzie?" She asked. Charlotte shrugged having no clue. "Are you okay? I can't ditch my date for prom if you want." Amber offered, she could tell Charlotte didn't want to go alone. "No it's fine, I've found someone actually." Charlotte lied. "Who?" Amber asked in excitement. "It's a surprise." Charlotte lied again. "I love surprises!" Amber smiled.
Charlotte was officially screwed. She had no date to prom, and she lied to her best friend. "Anyways, who are you going with again?" Charlotte asked. "Vincent, he's on the football team and soccer team." Amber smiled as she thought about him. "Actually, there's a football practice now, want to go watch?" Amber asked standing up which meant, she wasn't really asking instead telling. "Yeah sure." Charlotte said not wanting to actually go.
The girls walked towards the field. They noticed Lizzie sitting with the cheerleaders, they were watching practice. Lizzie had her eyes on Tyler which made Charlotte want to cry and she couldn't explain why. She ignored the feeling. "Look who's over there!" Amber was late to realize. "I saw." Charlotte walked towards the other set of benches. "Anyways, we have art next and we get to paint our favourite Vincent Van Gogh painting!" Amber smiled before her phone buzzed. "Yeah, I'm excited as well." Charlotte said with little enthusiasm. "I have to go, I'll be back in ten minutes." Amber stood up. "Your just gonna leave me here?" Charlotte was disappointed. "Don't worry, it won't be too long." She ensured. Charlotte rolled her eyes as Amber left her line of sight.
Charlotte couldn't help but notice how close Lizzie was getting to the cheerleaders, it's like they had been friends forever. "Hey." An unfamiliar voice said, footsteps following. Charlotte turned her head suddenly. It was Ridley, oddly. "Hi." Charlotte said nervously. "What are you doing here alone?" Charlotte asked, Ridley was always with a group of friends, that's what happens when your popular. "I could ask you the same thing." She smirked. "True." Charlotte muttered. "I didn't know you were a fan of football." Ridley asked looking at the field of sweaty running boys. "I am not." Charlotte laughed. "I was with Amber, she's going to prom with one of the boys on the team." Charlotte added. "Oh, and who are you going to prom with?" Ridley asked interested. "Nobody." Charlotte sighed. "That makes two of us." Ridley said which was surprising to Charlotte. Ridley was so popular, how could she not find someone to go with.
The lunch bell suddenly rang. "Oh, I have to go." Charlotte stood up nervously. "Yeah I should go to." Ridley said scratching the back of her head. "See you later, I guess." She added. "Yeah." Charlotte said before walking away. Charlotte was confused, she had never really talked to Ridley and all of a sudden, she wanted to talk to Charlotte.
