Aaron's POV
After talking to Avery about meeting the guys, I'm not so sure about it anymore. I mean, they're my best friends and I love them, but she's extremely shy. And well, they're not.
Let me tell you about my friends. First off, our group consists of me, Cameron, Nash, Shawn, and Carter. And might I add we're not exactly considered "unpopular" at school. Actually, I'd say we're the complete opposite. We all play varsity soccer together and that's basically how we became friends.
When the doorbell finally rings, I let them in. They're all yelling and messing around as usual so I have to quiet them down when they get inside.
"Dude, what's up?" Cameron asks, clearly annoyed that I made them be quiet.
"You guys are going to scare her!" I whisper scream at them as they all take a seat on the large couch.
"Who?" Cameron asks.
"His sister" Shawn pipes in. I mentally thank him for remembering. He always was the listener in our group.
"Do you guys not remember my whole lecture last week? My sister is living with us now..." I trail off hoping that will refresh their memories.
"Oh yeah! Cause your mom died?" Cameron asks nonchalantly.
"Shuttup, Cam! You don't just say that" Nash scolds him. I nod in agreement, but he just holds his hands up in defense.
"Okay, so we're going to go over some ground rules before you get to meet her" I tell them, feeling like a parent scolding children. They all sit in silence waiting for me to continue. "Okay. One, don't talk to her about my mom. They were really close and this is hard for her. Two, don't be really loud. She's nervous as it is, I don't need you scaring her away. Three-"
"Wait, dude! Is your sister hot?" Carter interrupts. I glare at him.
"Three, don't try anything with her. She's my sister, nothing more to you guys" I say firmly making sure to stare each one of them down so that they are intimidated. The room goes silent and they all stare at me with wide eyes. "Is that clear?" They nod their heads rapidly, and I smirk. Mission accomplished.
Avery's POV
I continue to look at myself in the mirror. I can't help but feel self-conscious. I mean, look at me. My hair is dark, long, straight and just plain boring. My eyes are the same, an extremely dull brown. My skin is pale. And I'm too skinny, I have absolutely no good curves.
I also can't help but think: What will Aaron's friends think?
Will they think I'm ugly or too plain? Will they think I'm a loser? That's what I'm used to people thinking of me, so I really shouldn't be bothered by it. But I still am.
Thankfully, my thoughts are interrupted by a knock on my door. I look over and see Aaron peeking his head in. He gives me a small smile.
"You ready?" I nod. "Just warning you, they can be a big obnoxious. And inappropriate at times. But they're also really nice and fun" he informs me as we walk down the stairs. I chuckle nervously, biting on my lip. A nervous habit.
He stops at the base of the stares and gives me a reassuring smile. I try to smile back, but I'm sure it looked fake. He ignores it though and we walk into the living room.
There are four guys sitting on the couch staring at the tv across from them. They all turn their heads to look at us when we walk in. I feel my stomach doing a million flips and a thousand thoughts rush through my head. Are they going to hate me? I can tell. They don't like me already. Are they judging me because of what I'm wearing? Should I have worn something else? Why are they staring at me?
