Too many I love yous

Merediths POV:

  My flight back to seattle is in 2.5 hours. Nathan said that he would drive me to the airport since he not going back for a few days. I was almost done packing when I heard a knock. I looked at the clock and saw that it was only 2:15 nathan wasnt picking me up until 2:30. I opened it anyway way to see him standing there.

"Hey youre early" I quickly say going back to packing 

"I thought you could use some help and i didnt want to be home when megan came back."

"Ahh ok, Will you grab my curling iron from the bathroom"

"Yeah" He went into the bathroom and grabbed it. When my phone buzzes. I quickly grab it and see its alex.

"Hey was wondering if you were coming home tonight. Me and Jo broke up and need to tell you something" 

"yes i will be leaving in a few. What happend?and what do you need to tell me?"

"Those to questions answer eachother. I will tell you later."

"Alex just tell me"

"Fine...just remember this isnt how i wanted to tell you. Me and Jo broke up because I am in love with you"

with that, i quickly turn my phone off and continue to get ready. Nathan comes out of the bathroom with my curling iron and makeup. Im still thinking about what alex said when 

"Hey you ok you seem off?"

"Yeah fine just distracted is all must be stress"

"Ok so all your stuff from your bathroom is in your suitcase"

"Ok thanks" 

"you sure youre ok?"

"No" I respond 

"Wanna talk about it?"

"Not really" I say. He lays down on the bed on his side.

"Come here"

I walk over to the other side and lay down laying 2 feet away from him facing away. after a few minutes of silence, I feel his arm go around me and pull me closer.

"Im going to miss my flight"

"Then you miss your flight, right now i just want to lay here with you for a few minutes"

"what if i don't go"

"Huh"

"What if we go somewhere for a few day just us" I said not wanting to go home to confront alex

"Mer you have kids and hospital duties"

"I can ask Amelia or Maggie to take them and I can ask Webber to take my surgeries"

"Where would we go?"

"Napa?"

"You're sure about this"

"Yes, I think we both deserve a vacation after what happened yesterday"

"Ok then we're going to Napa, I have to go back to the house to get a few things I will meet you here in an hour?" 

"Yeah sure"  He stood up and went to leave when he came back over to my side of the bed and gave me a kiss a sweet and gentle one, the type of one that made me forget about alex for a minute. The type of kiss that made everything feel perfect, at peace for a minute. 

An hour later

I Woke up to a knock at the door and my phone ringing. I answer my phone not bothering to look at the collar ID and answer the door. 

Nathan was at the door and Alex was on the phone.

My worst nightmare was coming true. 

"Alex I have to go"

"Mer we need to talk about this" I hung up the phone before he kept talking

"what was that about"

"It was nothing, just alex"

"what did he need"

"Advice, He and Jo broke up"

"Oh really that suck i was rooting for them, Do you know why"

"Um yeah...."

"Meredith"

"Hes in love with me"

"wha..oh..ok what are you going to do"

" I dont know what to do. i want to deal with this later right now i want to go to napa with you and not think about it"

"Mer"

"What"

"I love you." He faintly smiled at me, his gaze never leaving mine. 

"You, Mer. I love you. I need you to know that" He said it a lot louder than the first time.

"Nathan..." I shuffled opposite him and softly raised my hand to his face.

"Let me say this." He abruptly followed on with his sentence before I had a chance to say anything else.

 "I don't want you to freak out and I'm certainly not expecting you to say it back. Hell, I realized a long time ago that life is too short and there's so much loss in this world, you gotta tell people when you love them."Im sure that he had no idea what was going on in my mind at that moment, he often didn't. "So yeah, I love you."

I didn't move for what seemed like minutes, in reality it was only a few seconds. In fact, I dont think Nathan  I was even breathing.

I bit down on her lip, my wide eyes scanning his face. He was waiting for me to respond. All of a sudden I began to smirk, followed by a soft chuckle. I couldnt help but laugh.

Nathan shook his head at me, a shy grin laced his face. "Please don't say you're laughing at me."

"You were worried I'd freak out?" I questioned. I stood up, reaching my hand out for his to pull him up.

"I mean, yeah... After everything."

"Nathan." I looked at him and hesitated to continue, but i did. "You... You taught me that it's okay... It's okay to live my life, to enjoy things I never thought I'd ever enjoy again. You make me smile, and I don't even smile that often." we both began to laugh at that, it was very true. i was a hard nut to crack.

"You're a pain in the ass." I admitted, Nathan raised his eyebrows at her.

"But I have a nice ass." He defended.

"You do."

I closed the distance between us and wrapped my arms around his neck, he immediately responded and hugged me tightly right back. i felt peace which she'd never felt before, knowing that he loved me.

 I loved him.

I looked up at him, still pressed against his warm torso. "I love you."

Nathan smiled down at me, he knew I was saying that from the heart and not just because he had said it first.

"I'm gonna kiss you now." He tilted my chin with his fingers and crashed his soft lips onto mine almost immediately. I closed my eyes and leaned in deeply so that our foreheads were touching. I ran my fingers through his hair, it was a little flat from not being gelled. He intensified the kiss by invading my mouth with his tongue, slowly, lustfully. He was all I needed in that very moment. I had forgotten about everything that was complicated in my life. I was happy for the first time in a long time. 

Authors note: I honestly might have changed from present to past tense sorry.  and I have no excuse for not updating in a long time. Its just life caught up to me. I will try to update all of my other fanfics by tuesday or wednesday. It should be by tuesday since i already have whats going to happen i just have to write it out and make it make sense.
