Chapter 3

My steps echoed down the long hallway. The torches gave off a faint light in the otherwise pitch-black rooms. Room 24, the room where my mother was kept. I peered into her cell and saw that she was asleep. I wrapped my arms around two of the bars and rested my head between them.

"Hey Mom," I whispered, not wanting to wake her. "You know I miss you a lot. Hey, guess what. Ava eloped with a vampire named Sebastian. They’re getting officially married today. Now her mom and dad are arguing about it. But Ava isn't a kid anymore. They don't really get a say. Well at least they shouldn't. And the Event's in 3 months. It's my first remember? I don’t really know what to expect." No response to anything I said. Just a soft snore. I sighed and walked away.

When I exited the dungeons, a familiar face surprised me from behind the corner. I jumped a little.

"He's missing the Event because of what he did," said Aidan softly.

"Oh," I acknowledged not batting an eye. Missing the Event was a serious punishment to vampires.

"He's also being sent to another kingdom. He won't bother you again. I'm sorry he made you an unwanted donor." Aidan started walking away, but I stopped him.

"Wait. Thank you, again." He simply nodded and walked away. I wanted to put a smile on his face again, but the tension had returned to his shoulders. I sighed and walked to Ava’s bedroom to prepare for her wedding.

“There you are!” she exclaimed, while flying around her room.

“Yep here I am,” I said monotonously. I sat in a blue, fuzzy chair while a servant did up my makeup and hair. It was a tedious process, one where I was extremely happy when it was completed. I looked in the mirror as Ava stood behind me.

"You look so beautiful," I gasped.

"So do you little sis," Ava smiled back at me. Her white dress was accented with black jewels and a black veil. My dress was blood red and form fitting.

“Actually, no. You look damn hot!” she squealed. “I am so proud to have you as my maid of honor.”

“And I am so happy you’re finally getting married. Is he whipped yet?”

“No, but he will be soon.” Ava smiled deviously at me.

“Do I have to share you? I don’t want to.”

“Oh, honey, I will always be yours first. I will always pick you up when you fall, dry your tears, and beat up anyone who dares hurt you.” At this, I dove into her stomach, squeezing the life out of her. She laughed lightly back and hugged me fiercely. I felt a slow drip of tears on my head and on my cheeks, but neither of us cared.

“Come on, honey. Let’s go get me married,” Ava said holding my hand and dragging me to the council room.

"Ava and Sebastian please enter with your witnesses," stated a booming voice from the stone room.

"Lights, camera, action," Ava whispered to me winking in the process. I smiled back and stepped through the door, Ava following. After I sat down with my dad and Ava's mom, the groom and his family entered. I noticed a familiar head of messy dark brown hair in the position of best man.

"Will Ava and Sebastian come up please," asked a middle-aged vampire. "Michelle and Aidan will follow." Aidan nodded at me and then returned his attention to the speaker. Again, he was stony-faced and looked overall, disagreeable. The ceremony proceeded as usual and then we reached the vows.

As typical of vampire vows, blood was collected from both Ava and Sebastian and then drunken by the opposite person. The wedding continued until a young male vampire came in.

"Aidan is requested your highness. His wife is having birthing issues again." Aidan looked up violently.

"You may exit Aidan," said the king. Aidan took off running. "Ava your wedding will continue at a later date. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

“Aidan, as is Prince Aidan?” I whispered to Ava.

“Yes, of course. Sebastian and him are very good friends.”

“Ava, he’s the one that save me from that other vampire.”

“He is?” she asked, eyes wide open.

“Yes. I didn’t realize it was Prince Aidan though. I had never been introduced before.”

“Well, he has been very busy with his wife’s pregnancy complications.”

“Why? What happened?” I asked, concerned.

“Princess Lauren has already had three miscarriages and two premature deaths. This pregnancy seemed to be going so well.” My heart was reminded of losing my mother to a monster version of my mother and I could only emphasize with the prince and his wife.

Then, the young male vampire returned.

“Michelle, Prince Aidan requests your presence as a returned favor for saving you,” he said very blankly in spite of the chaos going on.

“Go!” Ava urged.

I followed the vampire until I heard the screams. Then, I kicked off my shoes and sprinted to the source of the screaming. I was scared that maybe I couldn't help. I swung myself into the room seeing doctors, nurses, and a lot of blood splattering the walls.

"Aidan, I'm here to help," I tried to say calmly. He whipped his head around. His wife lay screaming on the bed. He grabbed my arm and roughly pulled me to his wife. He pushed my neck to her mouth, but she wouldn’t latch on. He brought me back up, desperation shone in his eyes. He sunk his fangs into my neck and pushed my neck back into his wife’s mouth. As she began sucking, the screams stopped. The doctors and nurses went around the room checking charts, cleaning the blood off, and making sure the royals and me were okay with each backward glance.

“Aidan, what happened?” asked the king from the doorway. Aidan wanted to leave to talk with his father, but didn’t.

“She was going to lose the children, but Michelle’s blood helped her heal.”

“How did it do that so quickly?” The king was confused and sat, pondering.

“I truthfully don’t know, father, but her breeding is incredibly high.”

My vision began to swim and black dots appeared everywhere. When my knees began to buckle, Aidan caught me and sat me in a soft chair. I felt a tongue gently licking the wounds on my neck and a needle entering my wrist.

“Good God, she has sweet blood.”

So! Long time no read! Sorry. I really am. And then I foolishly deleted most of my chapters because I hated them so much, which got rid of all the hard-earned reads I got. Truth is, I'm sorry for everything. For deleting the chapters, for not posting in so long, for the sorry excuse of a story I had posted up here. I did combine a few chapters and am now going in a completely different direction(in case you didn't notice). Let's just say, for those new readers, that Lauren was already gone by this point. And I included "Sweet Blood" in two chapters. Because I was rushed and didn't look at writing as critically as I do now, the previous version of Sweet Blood was crap (in my opinion). So please, read, comment, enjoy, vote, maybe fan...
