A cool autumn breeze blew through the trees, causing more leaves to fall, covering the earth. I shivered and pulled my coat tighter as I walked home from a party. Avoiding, the cracks on the sidewalk, I make my way back to the apartment to check on my little sister Meghan, whom I left alone for 2 hours to go to a party.

In my defense, that was the best party I will go to in my life time; and, though it wasn't the most responsible on my part, I figured Meghan could spend a couple hours home alone.
Yeah, mom and dad, I have a social life too.
I checked my phone walking upstairs to see if my mom had texted me yet. There was still an hour before her and dad got home, so they wouldn't have any idea that I was gone. Smart, right?
I grab my keys from my pocket and reach to put them in the lock, but the door was already ajar.
"Fuck I know I didn't leave the door open," I mumbled, confused.
I slowly pushed the door in and gasped as my once furnished apartment was empty. Wandering through the house, I searched for any sign of furniture.
"You're in deep shit now Allie," I said to myself, feeling a nervous, queasy sensation in my stomach. Until then, the missing furniture was the only thing I thought about until it hit me.
"Meghan!" I yelled running to the back room in the apartment where I left her to sleep. I threw the door open, desparate to see my sister sleeping safely in her bed just like I left her. I broke down in tears as my sister's room was found just like the rest of the house- empty. I searched the closet for any sign of Meghan, but nothing. Panicking, I searched the rest of the house inch by inch. No furniture, no Meghan. Fuck.
