A seafarer's story as told by me
Of brave fishermen upon the Bering Sea
The captain of the ship set sail to reap
The yearly quota of bounty for their families
The deadliest catch is what they seek
For danger always plays havoc on the sea
These crabbing vessels head off the coast
Taking these men through water of ghosts
Prepared with suits to overcome the cold
The crew drops their nets and do as told
The captain and his men must be safe
Experience required for all his mates
He monitors the weather every second of the day
For sudden changes can drift them away
If winds blow strong and waves so high
This sea of danger can claim their lives
They work in shift through nights mist
Collecting what they came for, hand over fist
Their journey to return is just as steep
Throwing out the nets once again so they can eat
Unpredictable occurrences always lurking
Natures message about it's warnings
For these seafarer's are an elite breed
In which they face the unknown of the sea
While back at home atop the roofs
The widow's walk is always used
Their wives stand watch and pace to see
Search the horizon for the husbands of the Bering Sea
