"Out of interest," Elias Marshall asks as he turns to my brother and frowns. "When did Boys Night turn into Bring Your Wife to Boys Night?"

Turning to look into the living room, our eyes land on the gaggle of women who were gossiping amongst themselves, martini glasses in hand. Their leader, Sophie, was the loudest as she openly told the others how her and Dan's weekend getaway went, while Charlotte and Jenna sat in awe at how romantic my brother could be. Martha and Keira, meanwhile, were too busy chatting with Nina, Michael's sister, who had somehow been dragged along to this evening.

In answer to Elias' question, Dan shrugged and explained that since Adam had skipped town on the week he was due to host us, they had to find a back up at short notice and seeing as Michael wasn't picking up on Monday when Dan tried to call, it was down to him to play host. Unfortunately, Sophie had arranged an evening in with the girls for the same night, meaning Boys Night had indeed turned into Bring Your Wife to Boys Night.

"Why weren't you answering his calls?" Elias quizzes Michael as he tips his head towards Dan. "Too busy flirting with that partner of yours?"

Michael glared. "Elias? Get fucked."

"You get fucked," Elias spat back, incurring the wrath of Isaac Fletcher.

"You get fucked first," Isaac snapped.

Elias turned to Isaac. "At least I've got a wife to fuck. What exactly does he have?"

Pushing his chair backwards, it scraped across the floor, alerting Sophie to the growing tension. I was almost certain her fury stemmed more from the fact that Isaac had scratched her perfect wooden flooring rather than the two men who were about to punch each other but she still let rip on Elias and Isaac, chastising them for being immature and alerting Jenna and Charlotte to the fact that their better halves were actually the worst half. Jenna was equally irate over the fact that Elias had spoken about her in those terms, insisting that he would be sleeping on the couch tonight. She also called his a tosser.

I couldn't disagree with that assessment. I know Elias is my brother's best friend and all but sometimes I can't stand to be around him, mainly because he has an attitude problem and gave off the vibe that he's better than everyone else. Charlotte thought the same; she had often said that of all Isaac's friends, Elias was the one she liked the least. Her favourite was Michael, which would have been insulting if not for the fact that she discounted me merely because I was her best friend, therefore, I trumped Isaac and all his friends.

"I didn't know we were also inviting kids to the party, either," Elias continued, scoffing while smirking in Martha and Keira's direction. If there was anything that was truly going to tip Isaac over the edge, it would be Elias going after his daughters but to my surprise, Isaac stayed relatively calm, in so far that he didn't lunge across the table to strangle Elias. "Why exactly are they here?"

With Michael ready to defend his sister and Logan knowing that Keira would kill him for leaping to her defence, it was down to me to protect the honour of my girlfriend. "Elias, stop talking shit," I lectured. Throwing down the cards I held, I didn't care that I'd just lost a winning hand. "Do you see anyone else around this table taking crap about you and Jenna? It's not like we don't have enough to say. You want to criticise us for our relationships, take a look at yours."
