Hannah Cabello was a lawyer or stockbroker or accountant or CIA agent (Lauren wasn't quite sure which and it didn't really matter). She was serious, a no nonsense sort of person, looking coolly down at everyone with her glasses slipping down the bridge of her nose, a permanent expression of slight boredom etched onto her features.

Lauren liked her immensely.

"You must be the girlfriend," she said, shaking Lauren's hand professionally, as if this were a business meeting. "It's really nice to meet you, after everything my mom's said."

"It's nice to meet you too."

"Where's Trevor?" Elizabeth interrupted, forcing Hannah to look away, raise her eyebrows imperiously, and let out a perfectly measured sigh—enough to express sadness, not enough to indicate any sincerity.

"He got called away. Can't make it," Hannah said smoothly, reaching out to hug Camila and then hug her sister. "But the twins came with me. They're bringing in the bags."

"Lauren and I'll help," Camila offered, and before Lauren could argue—point out she wanted to spend more time with Hannah—Camila grabbed her arm and dragged her outside. Two girls were standing behind the car, struggling with a heavy-looking bag, dropping it the moment they noticed Camila.

"C!" they yelled simultaneously, one of them rushing forward and enveloping her in a tight hug. They couldn't have been more than ten or eleven years old.

"Mom said you'd be here," the one who rushed forward muttered, hugging her cousin tighter.

"Lauren," Camila said, motioning for her to step forward. "This is Madelyn." She gestured to the girl holding her. "And that's Madison," she said, pointing to the one who hung back. Lauren frowned, knowing for a fact that she would never be able to tell them apart, deciding right then to call them both Maddie and be done with it.

"Your girlfriend is pretty," the one still hugging Camila whispered, and the girl hanging back (Madison?) rolled her eyes.

"She can hear you, Madelyn."

"So?"

"How about you two take the lighter bag inside and Lauren and I will take care of the others, okay?" The Maddies nodded at Camila, grabbed the smaller bag, and walked towards the house, arguing the entire way.

"So. Maddie One and Maddie Two seem to like you."

"Seriously?"

"They look the same."

"They're twins, they're supposed to."

"They were too excited to see you. Is that normal for a cousin?"

"You should be nice, they're going through a tough time," Camila said, shaking her head. "Aunt Hannah's divorce was just finalized about two weeks ago."

"What?"

"Yeah. Trevor was caught with his pants down. Literally. He used to work at the same hospital as my mom, but he's gone now."

"Wow, drama in the Cabello family." She frowned. "You think if we tell Elizabeth she'll lay off us and annoy her sister instead?"

"You can't tell anyone. I think Aunt Hannah is waiting until this thing is all over."

"Dinah and I never lied to our mom."

"Because your mom isn't Sinu or Carol Cabello, terrorizers and judgers."

"You left out oppressors."

"You think? That's not going too far?"

"Not at all! If anything, you're not going far enough."
