Reggie awoke from his sleep in a cold sweat. He had the dream again. The same two fish swimming in a pool of stars. They swim without stopping, undisturbed by the on look of his eyes.
Reggie wiped the sweat from his face with his shirt sleeve thinking of the dream his been having for over a week. He talked to his father, a doctor, about his consistent dream, but his father couldn't conclude why he kept having the same dream. His father looked in books and consoled other doctors, but to no avail.
Reggie walked lazily out of his room and over to the stairs. He heard the voices of his mom and dad talking about the same old things. The weather, dads novel he's been working on, and moms book club, where they complain about their husbands and their home life.
"Good mornin' Reggie, how'd you sleep?"His mother asked in a chirping voice as she made his breakfast plate.
"I slept fine" He yawned in reply sitting in a chair at the table.
"Same dream?" His father questioned from behind the newspaper. On the front page was a cave that had signs placed around it saying things like "danger" and "beware".
"Ya same dream. That's 9 days it's been going on and I haven't been getting sleep." Reggie yawned Resting his head on his hand.
"Well, maybe you should be goin' to bed earlier then. Maybe that's the problem." Reggie's mom advised as she placed the plate of food in front of her son.
Reggie looked at his plate of food. He didn't feel hungry, actually the sight of food made his stomach turn, so he pushed the plate away from him and went to get a drink.
"Maria told me that her and her husband have been fightin' again. That makes it the third time this week. The poor kids, havin' to listen to all that howlin'." Reggie's mom gossiped to her husband, spreading her toast with homemade jam.
His father gave her a sideways glance and sighed.
"That's none of our business dear, how would you like it if someone was mouthing our business to the world behind our backs?" He questioned turning a page in the newspaper.
Reggie returned to the table with a cup of milk in his hand. Placing it on the table he quietly sat in his seat and looked over his breakfast. Two slices of toast, three pieces of bacon, and two sunny side eggs. The sight made his stomach hurt.
"What? Not hungry?" His mother asked in a concerned voice. "You haven't been eatin' lately, are you sick?"
Reggie narrowed his eyes at her. Annoyed at how ditzy his mother is.
"I'm fine, I've only been restless for nine days and my stomach has been hurting at just the thought of food, but ya I'm fine!" He growled.
"Don't use that tone with your mother Reginald. I'm not going to have a disrespectful son in this house" His Father warned. "Now apologize to your mother."
"Sorry mom, it's just the tiredness talking" Reggie apologized.
The family of three sat in silence as they ate breakfast. Reggie just stared at his plate. The pain still in his gut.
"Reggie could you run to the book store and pick up the book I ordered? You can pick out a book too, if you would like" His father asked.
Reggie wasn't the book type of guy. Sure he read once in a while, but that was in school.
"I'll go pick up the book for you dad, but I'm good on getting a book. Books are for eggheads and I am no egghead" he stated bluntly.
His reply earned a little laugh from his mother and a flick on the ear by his father.
His father gave him the money for the book and a little extra in case Reggie wanted anything. He put on his jacket and boots, then head off to the book shop.
Reggie walked about twelve minutes until he saw the cave that was in the newspaper. The danger and warning signs placed in every direction. He took a quick minute to take in the sight of the plants growing from the cracks in the rocks and the mud covering the entrance floor.
Reggie turned his head away from the cave that he saw a glimpse of a figure in the corner of his eye. He froze for a second and looked back to see if there actually was a figure, but there was nothing there. So he quickly began to head to the shop.
When he arrived at the shop he looked around to make sure the coast was clear before entering the store. The coast was indeed clear not another soul in sight. Reggie opened the door to the shop and a little bell rang to alert that there was a customer in the store.
Reggie walked up to the front desk where Mr. Rae, the shops owner, usually resides, but he was nowhere to be found.
"Mr. Rae! I'm here to pick up a book for my dad!" Reggie called to the man, but no reply. So Reggie began to walk around the store to see if Mr. Rae was hanging about. His eyes seemed to wonder when his eyes landed on a light black book with the words "all you need to know about the zodiac signs" engraved in silver on the spine.
He picked it up and scanned the cover. It had the constellations of the zodiac. He learned a little about the zodiac in school, never really paying attention all he knows is his zodiac sight which is Pisces the two fish. Reggie opened his eyes in shock. His zodiac is the two fish and he's been dreaming about two fish in his constant dream.
"Hello Reggie! Sorry I didn't hear ya, I was all the way in the back" A loud voice surprised Reggie out of his train of thought.
"O-oh! Hey Mr. Rae, it's fine I was just coming to pick up my dads book" Reggie said trying to recover from the surprise heart attack from the old book keeper.
Mr.Rae walked to the head of the store and placed a book on the counter.
"Will that be all?" Mr. Rae asked placing the book in a bag.
Reggie looked at the book in his hand then placed it back on the shelf.
          "Ya that's all"
          "That's 62 cents"
Reggie handed the change to the man and grabbed hold of the bag. They said there fair wells and Reggie started to walk home.
He was thinking about the dream he has been having and his zodiac sign. Maybe they had a connection in some way.
When Reggie returned home his mother was washing the dishes.
"Mom where's dad? I have his book" Reggie asked taking the book out of the bag.
"There was an emergency at the Jones'. Their little girl has come down with somethin'" she explained. "Go put it on his desk"
He walked into his fathers office and placed the book on a pile of papers. The den wasn't very clean, it never was, but it was messier then usual. There were papers everywhere and books everywhere but the shelfs.
Reggie noticed a paper written in red ink peaking from under a folder.
The paper looked like it had been written recently.
Reggie picked up the paper, his eyes skimming the paper. One name caught his eye. Reggie
Dear Jacob,
In the recent letters you have sent me about Reggie's persistent dream I have a theory to what it may be about. I'm rereading the letters you wrote me I've been searching and I've come up with an idea that may come of interest. Reggie may be a Zodiac wielder. Yes it may be just an idea, but I've read a book on Zodiac wielders written by Aria wielder of the ram. She said she had dreams of a sheep before she met Jesa wielder of the bull. If this is what I think it is we are in grave trouble. Pay attention to Reggie's dreams and write soon.
Sincerely,
Jackson
Reggie reread the letter again and again. Carefully trying to make sense of what he was reading.
"Zodiac wielders? What are those?" Reggie asked himself.
"Reggie?"
Reggie whipped around to face a person in the doorway.
"Dad?"
