Reggie stood frozen as he looked at his father the letter clutched in his left hand.
"Reggie? What are you doing in here?" His father asked in a low tone. He stepped forward then his eyes landed on the letter.
"Why do you have my letter in your hand? You know my Den is strictly off limits" his scolded as he snatched the paper from Reggie's hand.
"Mom told me to put the book on your desk." Reggie said slowly.
His father looked over the letter then back at Reggie. He threw it in his desk then walked over to the book shelfs, shoving all the clutter to the side until he found what he was looking for.
"Here, read this." His father said handing Reggie the book. Reggie just stared at it as if it were to disappear.
The title read "wielders" by Zeria.
"The wielder of the archer. She has written about his comrades in it. I finished it and I want you to read it. The other book I ordered is written by 'Celia wielded of the water bearer'."
"Am I a wielder?"
"I believe so, Reggie if you are you must find the others! The world is in grave danger if you don't!" His Father pleaded.
Reggie stood there as his father's pleads fell on deaf ears. If this was true how could he save the world? Why him of all the trained adult soldiers?.
Reggie left the den clutching the book staring blankly as he stared ahead thinking. Is this real? Like really real?
Reggie bolted up the stairs and shut his door. Sitting at his desk by the window he began to read the book.
I am Zeria Aundenstiltz and I am a zodiac Wielder. I wield the powers of the archer. I have spent many years protecting the humans and monsters, the creatures and the world from danger. I have fought beside eleven others during my years. We have grown close as we've protected not only each other, but the future generations that will come to live, laugh, and play on this wonderful planet I've come to love.
I'm writing this book because I want to share my life story and share my feelings.
Ill start from the beginning so you can get a better understanding of me. I wasn't always Zeria Aundenstiltz, I was born Wilya Sunts. I was born to a very poor couple who owned a small farm. I was one of four children and I was the youngest. I had two older brothers and a older sister. Malia, Shaiko, and Rela.
My father worked beside us in the fields. My brothers Shaiko and Rela tended to the animals and I worked with my father picking the crops. My sister Malia helped my mother in the kitchen.
We were poor, but that never brought our spirits down. Mother was a great singer which me and Rela inherited. She would sing with the birds and my father would play a makeshift guitar that he made.
When I was fifteen I started to have dreams about me being an expert marksman with a bow and arrow. I didn't know why I was having these dreams, I've never even heard of a bow and arrow before in my life.
I told my parents about my dreams and they decided to get me a bow and arrow. My parents worked extra side jobs and I sold lemonade to the other farmers around our neighborhood until we had enough money.
I was gifted with the bow that's for sure. I would hit bullseyes without looking. I would set up targets in the woods and ride horseback shooting.
I then became very sick where I was bedridden for three weeks. I had a high fever that never declined. The neighborhood doctor, Dr. Griz, couldn't piece together what was wrong with me.
After the third week I felt full of energy and I felt strong. What was strange was my fever never went down thought. It still continues to linger as I write this book.
I was always as hot as the summer heat, but I didn't feel sick. One day when in spring me, my mother, and sister were picking flowers when I began to sneeze. I sneezed so hard fire came from my nose and mouth.
My mother and sister were afraid at what I had become and soon my whole family became afraid of me. I decided that I was gonna leave so my family wouldn't be afraid anymore.
I changed my name and left my family behind. We still kept in contact through short visits and letters, but I was all on my own at fifteen.
"Reggie! Dinner time!" Reggie's mother called from downstairs.
Reggie looked up from the book he was so focused on reading he didn't notice the sunset through his window.
The smell of baked chicken filled the air, making Reggie's mouth water, but his stomach turn. He loved his mom's backed chicken, it was his favorite meal.
Reggie walked into the dining room to see his father reading the book of Celia wielder of the water bearer. His mother giving her husband a sideways glare and when he finally put down the book she took it and put it back in his den.
His family said grace and they began began to eat. Reggie took small bites of his roll, trying to avoid a stomachache. His mother and father striking up a conversation about the Jones' little girl.
"It was nothing but a little bug. You know I can't give out my patients information, even to you." He said taking a bite of mashed potatoes.
"Fine. I'll just ask Nana" she said looking at Reggie. "Well I see you're finally eating something. You feeling better?" She asked him.
"Ya a little. Just taking small bites so I won't get sick." Taking another bite of bread.
"Reggie you've been in your room for a while. What have you been doing up there?" His mother questioned.
Reggie looked at her then at his father. His father silently looking at his wife.
"I sent him to his room for snooping through my papers" He said taking a sip of his drink.
His mother looked down at the floor and then cleared her throat.
"Snooping is wrong Reggie." She scolded. His father sent her a sideway glare.
"Dear let's not be hypocritical now" he suggested.
She opened her mouth to speak but no words came out. She then closed her mouth and stared at her plate.
After Reggie finished his loaf of bread he quickly retreated up stairs to his room. He sat at his desk and started to read the book again.
I lived in a church with orphaned girls until I turned nineteen. I also helped manage a tavern as a waitress to earn income. I saved up the tips I made for a home.
One night in the summer a grown man came into the tavern. He didn't order anything he just sat there and watched me work. When it first opened to when It closed it for the night he watched me. He even followed me from the tavern to the church.
When I confronted him he took out a silver dagger and attacked me with it. Out of instinct I scorched his hand. When I caught him off guard I wrestled the dagger from his grip and I held it to him.
I caught the face of the man in the moonlight. His face possessed an emotionless expression.
He told me he was the crab zodiac wielder his name Areias and that he was in a mission to unite all the wielders together. He asked me to join him as a comrade.
I agreed and joined him to find the others. We traveled all across the world and recruited the other wielders. Not all of them human as me and Areias.
There were four other non human wielders. Hibia, who was the wielder of the twins, was a mermaid. She was like a mother to all of the younger members like me. Jameara, who was the wielder of the sheep, was a pixie. Féria, the wielder of the lion, was a cyclops. Then Delors, the wielder of the virgin, was a centaur.
The others were human like me. Asvinia was the goat wielder. Zania was the scorpion wielder. Abia was the balance wielder. Tanya the bull wielder. Then Kauai the fish wielder.
We were a family we protected each other we helped each other. We fought the darkness that plagued the earth. After the war we all decided to go our spectate ways.
"Reggie, it's time for bed. What are you doing?" Reggie's mom said as she walked into his room.
Reggie quickly closed the book and hid it in his desk. He then turned to his mom and glared at her.
"Ever hear of knocking?" He growled angrily.
"Hey I'm a mom knowing what my child is doing is apart of the job" she said in her defense. "Now get to bed its late."
Reggie rolled his eyes and retreated to his bed as his mom exited his room. He lay staring at the ceiling and closed his eyes drifting off to sleep.
