Every nerve in my body had awaken, every enzyme, pain receptor. I can feel it just flowing through my body, like a shock. The cold has made my ears lose their full capabilities long before I woke up. Pinpointing the location of this vibration. I found it. My pocket. My phone. Although I know the source is from my pocket my whole body is numb I turn out my pockets immediately left then right no sign of it. Only the sound of coins clattering on the ‘floor’. Thrusting my hip forwards as much as possible and reach in for my back pocket the warm of my buttock assures me there is something there. Dig in deep a dim light illuminated the coffin. Almost blinds me. It’s my alarm. I can faintly hear it. I was right, it was my alarm for my Saturday jog 9pm. This just made everything ever so clear. I know the date, the time. My instincts where to dial 999. I need to unlock this phone. But my hands are shaking and their so cold and shrivelled the touch screen isn’t responding. Muttering under my sleazy voice “come on, please”. I let out a brittle chestly cough releasing a fluid. Blood. My heart suddenly dropped. For a spilt second it literally skipped a beat. The shock of the blood puts me off. I need to stay focused I wipe the screen off with whatever I’m wearing. Making a fist and rubbing all fingers simultaneously. I’ve never had so much trouble typing in a four digit code. The numerals are nothing but a blur. A muffled vibration indicating I got the code wrong. Another, after another. Until my eyes adjusted barley enough for me to know what to tap. The iPhone click that you’ve unlocked the phone letting out a big sigh of relief, reassuring my survival out of the ordeal. I crack a smile. I spoke too soon.
