They ran a few miles. Marzia coughed again and her legs gave in. She started to have a coughing fit.
Felix supported her weight and wiped the blood that was dripping from her mouth.
"I'm sorry... Just leave me and go on" she said, her voice shaking a little bit.
"No! You have to come with me, Marzia!" Felix insisted "It's not that far!"
"I just can't run anymore..."
Marzia closed her eyes, but opened them as soon she realized she was being lifted.
"You don't have to, Marzia. I'll carry you" Felix gave her a tiny, hopeful grin.
He started to run again, but with more speed.
Marzia barely weighed a thing, so he was able to run fast.
But unfortunately, this wasn't good enough.
Marzia began to cough up more blood.
Her skin was turning pale, almost white.
Felix stopped, he had a small, aching feeling... she wasn't going to make it.
"M-Marzia... don't give up...we're almost there...! It's not far!" Tears were threatening to spill.
She was still breathing, but it was scarcely faint.
Felix loward himself down, he sat on his kneese.
He sniffled.
"Leave me... It's okay..." said Marzia, her voice sounded scratchy.
Felix shook his head violently "No!-"
"It's okay, Felix.... I'm ready" more tears fell from Marzia's eyes "Just make it to the shelter... I don't want anything to happen to you..."
A tear escaped Felix's eye, but he just blinked it away.
"I'm not leaving without you...! T-There's still a chance!"
Marzia shook her head slowly.
"No... I understand this is hard for you.. but this is it for me..." She sniffled "but as long as I know you are safe, I'm happy"
Tears were falling from Felix's eyes. Before even thinking twice, he loward his face closer to hers, he gently pressed his lips against her.
Marzia's eyes widened.
Felix pulled away, he swallowed and spoke.
"I never got to tell you-"
"You..." Marzia interrupted him as she began to cry "You idiot...!"
She closed her eyes and weeped silently "I-I thought I was ready... but now..."
"Marzia..." Felix pulled her close and embraced her tightly "I love you, Marzia"
"I love you too... Felix"
And at that moment, Marzia's hand fell from Felix's shoulder, her head fell back slowly.
She was gone.
Felix looked down at her. His tears were falling one by one.
Marzia, the girl Felix had met all those years ago, the girl he had fallen in love with... was gone.
But he promised himself that he would never forget her.
She was the one who changed him. She made him into the good person that he was.
He would live on, for Marzia.
