Skylar's POV
"Mom, I'm nervous." I say. We're sitting in the back of a cab. "Honey, it's fine, just have fun. You deserve it." She smiles and looks over at me. I won this free stay at Camp Richmond because I wrote the best essay. "But, mom, all of the kids are gonna be rich, stuck up snobs." I point out. "Not all of them will be, I promise. Don't forget to write me everyday!" She says as we pull up. "I wo-" I stop. I look up and see a huge mansion. "Um, sir, is this the camp?" I ask the driver. "Yep." He grunts and hold his hand out for money. My mother scrambles through her wallet and barely has enough. I look down at the 500 dollars she gave me. "Mom, just take one hundred back, four hundred is quite enough." I hand her a one hundred dollar bill back. "Thank you, Sky." We both get out and I hug her tightly. "I'll miss you." I whisper into her ear. "I know, honey, but you'll have fun." She replies and releases me. Then she gets back into the cab, leaving me and my suitcase.
I wait until the cab is out of sight before I turn around. Since we're in California, the mansion is on a huge cliff, wow. I then realize how beautiful it is. It has stain glass windows and the entire front is sort of ruined because previous campers' handprints were on there. It was a cool idea, I mean don't get me wrong, but it ruined the mansion. I take my suitcase's handle and begin to walk towards the door. I see dozens of limos pull up, and kids with a wad of cash.
When I enter the ginormous doorway, my jaw drops. The sparking marble floor and the grand staircase is flawless. A huge chandelier dangles above the entire room.
"I hear there's real diamonds on that thing." A unfamiliar voice says behind me.
I whip around and see a beautiful girl standing there. She has long blonde hair that has loose curls, with beautiful brown eyes. She has a spaghetti strap crop top on with white high waisted shorts, and to finish it off, she has about 5 inch heels sitting in the pouch of her Chanel purse.
"Oh, that's not surprising." I say, realizing I was staring.
"I'm Jordan." She smiles and reaches to shake my hand but one of her shoes fall out and a heel breaks. "Oh my god! My baby!!" She gets walks away, obviously distracted by her stupid shoe.
I continue wandering around until I see many tables with long lines, must be the place where we find out our" cabins". I wonder what their definition of a cabin is.
When it's finally my turn, I walk up to the young lady and say my last name. "Clark?" She types in my name and looks up at me with a huge grin. "Are you the essay winner?" She asks. "Um...yeah. Skylar Clark." I respond nervously. "Wow, that's so cool. Hmm...your cabin number is 38, on the right side...and you're sharing a cabin with Jordan, Alexa, and Sydney!" She exclaims and hands me a room card, like one you'd get at a hotel. After she shows me where my cabin is, I start walking outside to the backyard and see many, large cabins.
I'm standing in front of cabin 38. I take a deep breath and insert the room key and open the door. I see 4 boys sitting on bunk beds.
"I..." I'm too shocked to speak.
"What the hell?" One guy says. The others are trying to hide their laughs.
"Is this cabin 38?..." I ask, embarrassed.
"Yeah, on the guys' side." The same guy responds.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I'll leave..." I turn around, knowing that my cheeks are read as shit. As I walk out I hear "dumbass" whispered among them. I quickly exit and go to the girls side.
I walk into the right cabin. It has four large bunk beds, one on each side. It was much more nicer than the boys', with satin pillowcases and little chocolates waiting for us on the beds. I'm the first one to arrive to our room, so I call dibs on the top bunk sitting on the right side. I walk down farther and see a door to my left and open it. It was a huge bathroom with marble floors, a jacuzzi, a shower and a large mirror with a tv in it. I wonder if they've ever seen a real cabin? I go across to the other door and see a screen with four names on it, "Jordan Altug, Skylar Clark, Alexa Johnson, and Sydney Woolford." I select my name and the machine inside rotates twice until there's a new door with my name on it. I slowly turn the knob and walk in. My jaw dropped. A large walk-in closet was there, with a makeup mirror, stool, and all new makeup. A bunch of expensive brands. I choked. I don't belong here.
After a few minutes of standing there in shock, the front door opens, and the girl I had met earlier was there.
"Oh, hey! It's you!" She was now in flats. "Um, excuse me..." She stands next to me with her bag.
"Oh...sorry." I move out of the way.
She selects a few buttons on the panel and then clicks on her name. Wow, she knows what she's doing. She walks into "closet" then the panel rotates back to the main screen. This is too much for me.
