Chapter 2: Check up and Chinese.

"What's happened?" I question following the lady down the halls. She doesn't choose answer me. Her feet come to a halt, she swiftly turns to face my brother and me. "From what I've been told, I can't give you that information because it is only the first day back and we wouldn't want you stressing your brains already." She tried explaining but if that her way of getting me not to worry, she did a terrible job.

"No. I'm already stressed, and worried. Just tell us what happened." Tyler spoke my thoughts. "Just come this way." She sighed wrapping her fingers around a silver handle, pushing it down and opening the office door. "To principal Canon's office." She pointed. Tyler was right behind me as we walked down the small hallway. I stopped in his doorway, knocking at his open door. "Lennon. Tyler. Have a seat please." He stood up from his chair that looked overly comfy, and gestured to the seats in front of his desk. "We received a call from the hospital. You're dad has gotten hurt at work. A piece of ply-wood fell on his head, and he passed out, and somehow broke two of his fingers." He spoke crossing his fingers together on top of his desk. "What is he okay?" I quickly asked. "I don't know. We haven't received any further information." He spoke in such a calming tone. "We have to go. I have to see him. May we be dismissed to go see him?" Tyler asked nervously. The principal couched as he scratched the back if his neck. Was he seriously think about this!?

After a few moments of silence he let out a big sigh, "Fine, but tomorrow you have to have a note to count for your absence....and you can give that note to me. I'll explain everything to the attendance record keeper." He smiled. "Thank you Principal Canon." I smiled. "Yes, thanks." Tyler said as well, leaving his office.

We exited out the double doors we had came in less than six hours ago. Tyler watched his feet as he walked. I knew he was nervous. Ever since mom died he's had a thing with hospitals. I gently bump him with my shoulder, gaining him a reassuring smile. "It will be okay." I tried to sound as convincing as I could since I didn't even know how it would turn out. "Sure hope so." He sighed, pulling his keys from his pocket.

"Dad?" I whisper as I slowly open the door to room 211. Once the door was completely open I saw him starring at the tv. He looked fine, until I walked closer. The opposite side of his face was bandaged up, but I could see purple bruises still showing. His bottom lip had a cut that reached all the way to the inside of his mouth, that was smiling as he saw me. "Hi sweetie." His voice cracked. He hadn't spoken in a while, or he just woke up. "Tyler!" His smile widened when Tyler came closer. "Hey dad. Feeling okay?" He asked hugging him. I could tell Tyler was just happy to see him awake, and alive. "Yeah. It's not everyday you get knocked out by a price of wooden, but it wasn't that bad." He joked. Which made us both laugh. It was nice seeing daddy laugh. The sort that sucks is that we had to go and get knocked out to have a laugh. After mom dying, dad was never the same. He always had something to be done. Weather it was work he crammed his mind with like new house layouts or new advanced building to be planned. But I hate that we don't see him a lot, but I don't resent him for it. He lost the love of his life for god's sake, even I would do the same thing.

After about two hours of laying beside my father in this very comfy but morbid hospital bed watching stupid criminal shows, his favorite, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and looked at the number who was calling. Mmm? "I'll be back guys." I said to them before swiping the call to answer it. Once I was out of the room, I said hello. "Hi. Lennon?" His thick accent came through the phone reminding me of everything that had happened on Saturday night. Chills went up my back at remembrance of his touch. "Yes. Hi." I finally spoke again. I started to walk away from the busy desk that stood in front of my dad's hospital room, and towards the end of the hall. I read a sign that said 'stairs'. Just my luck. No one ever takes the stairs anymore. "Did you catch that darling?" He chuckled. "No. Sorry. Things are kind of hectic at the moment." I answered. "Oh want me to call some other time?" He asked disappointed. "No. No. What were you saying?" I continued him. "I said sorry for not calling you yesterday. I was busy setting things up at work, and I was wondering if I could take you out tonight to make up for it?" He spoke. His words made my knees weak. He made me weak. But then I remembered about dad. Damn. "I would love to but I can't tonight." I said. I felt my heart crumble into a million pieces. He awkwardly coughed before he answered me, "Yeah another time then?" He said with hurt which killed me even more. "I'm so sorry. I would totally come, if it weren't for the circumstances right now." I said hopeful that he would believe me. "Yeah. It's fine. Talk to you later love." He said before he ended the phone call without letting me say goodbye.
