Because there's always that moment you get tired of following the leader.

A lone girl sat at the corner of the enormous library in Wammy's House. Hidden from the view of the other children by the huge shadows casted by the towering bookshelves, reading a book on her favorite topic. The brain.

This girl was known to many who inhabited Wammy's. Not because they knew her personally. Certainly not because she was popular amongst the crowd. Need I mention not because she was friendly?

No, not because of any of those things. But because she was one of the smartest kids in the orphanage. Second smartest, let me remind you. She hated being reminded of that, though. She wanted to be the smartest.

But of course, that title had already been claimed. By Near.

Near. Possibly the most annoying person that has ever walked the face of the Earth. In Oda's opinion of course. She would not mind him if she wasn't so competitive, but she is. Every fiber in her body rejected, detested that boy.

Oda wondered if thats what Mello felt towards her.

Mello, the third smartest child at Wammy's. It must be terribly. But at least he's up there.

Oda's train of thought was stopped by more kids entering the library.  One of them was Near. She closed her eyes so no one would see her roll them. Slowly getting up, Oda made her way to the exit.

A couple of girls who were not very fond of her snickered while she walked past them. No doubt they were laughing at Oda's attire.

Odds always wore a baggy, dark purple sweatshirt with a skirt going above her knees just a tiny, little bit more than it should in the same color. With long, black socks going a bit past her knees. Her curly red hair loosely flowing down her back and her bangs going a little past her green eyes.

Oda walked straight passed them without glancing at them. They were powerless without her reaction.

Take that, Oda began to think, you little pieces of-

Her thoughts were cut off by her harshly bumping into someone. Oda made an 'oof' sound upon impact.

Oda lightly stumbled back.

"Woah, are you alright?" The victim of her clumsiness asked. Grabbing her by the shoulders. Oda could smell the hint of cigarette sent on him.

"I'm alright. I apologize for my clumsiness. Excuse me." Oda responded, in her casual monotone voice, while making her way around the boy. 

The boy had brown hair and green eyes. His head was supporting goggles, if you asked Oda, he had a weird sense of style. He also had what looked like a DS in his hand.

She made her way to her room.

It was simple. A bed, a closet, a small bookshelf, and a table with a computer where she kept herself busy. Finding cases to solve secretly. That's how she got her practice.

Oda spread across her bed. She was tired. Her cat, the one I mentioned earlier,  jumped on the bed and sat next to Oda.

In all honesty, Oda was bored.

And you and I both know boredom can be a dangerous thing.

She wanted to succeed L already and leave. Only two things were standing in her way. Mello and Near. That L needed to decide who would succeed him when he's dead.

No, maybe she's wrong. She doesn't want to succeed L. She doesn't want to become L. There can only ever be one L. She wanted to become O. She wanted a name for herself.

At the moment, Oda is only fifteen years old. The Kira case has been going on for a couple of years now. She knew L was leading the investigation. Everyone knew. Then why was it taking so long?

If only...no, dont be stupid. Although, you could do it...Oda thought. What if I solve the Kira case?

That will certainly make a great case to solve first if you want to become even close to being the greatest detective by yourself, Oda.

This won't be easy, I need to start investigating now.

Oda jolted from her bed, with a sudden rush of energy. Startling her feline friend.

She moved to the table with her computer with lightning reflexes. And opened the search bar.

She got results for her search in a matter of seconds.
