As one hundred percent expected, Lydia hadn't forgotten my birthday, this was made clear to me when the strawberry blonde she-devil texted me and told me to wear something pretty since her and Allison were taking me out to dinner. Seeing this text from Lydia appear on my phone screen - as soon as I plopped down on the couch -sent a wave of annoyance over me because I had just settled into some comfortable sweatpants, but I couldn't help the smile that lifted the corners of my mouth at the gesture. I was told strictly to wear a dress since the restaurant that I was being dragged to was some fancy Italian one downtown, but I didn't see why we couldn't just go to Taco Bell or something, I was really feeling a crunch wrap right now.I found it incredibly unnecessary to go through the effort put on a dress only to grab food and decided that I would endure a scolding from Lydia - so I shoved on a pair of jeans and a cute shirt that bought for my vacation to London and grabbed some boots, heading downstairs. I had made it to the bottom of the steps, about to shoot Lydia a text when Jenna stopped me in my tracks. Her blue inquisitive gaze roamed up and down my outfit and a disapproving expression washed over her features. I frowned at her, shoving my phone into my back pocket, "what's that look for?"
Jenna shook her head, folding her arms across her chest and stating matter-of- factly, "You're not wearing that."
I narrowed my eyes, glancing down at my outfit. It seemed cute enough to me. "Why? I'm only going out for dinner with Lydia and Allison."
Jenna rolled her eyes, flipping a blonde curl over her shoulder before grabbing my forearm and dragging me back upstairs. I let out a yelp of surprise, almost falling backwards as she yanked me up the stairs. "What are you doing?"
Jenna ignored me and just about skipped with me into my room and sat me on my bed with a light shove. I gaped at her as she held a finger up to me, telling me she would be one minute as she scurried out of my room. I sat there in a confused silence and I could hear her mumbling to herself as she searched for something. I could also hear multiple items falling to the floor with a thud, then quiet strings of curse words. Rolling my eyes in annoyance, I checked the time on my phone and sighed - I was going to be late.
Around ten seconds later, I heard a, "yes!" Then the crazy woman I call my aunt came rushing back into my room with a childish grin on her face. Her fists were clenched in an excited grip on the paper handles of two Macy's bags. I just frowned and looked between the bags in her hands, then lifted my gaze up to meet her wide eyed stare. She was beaming at me as she thrust the bags into my face.
Without making a move to take the bags, I bit my lip and asked, "What's that?"
Jenna's grin widened, "your birthday present."
My eyebrows raised in surprise and I hastily took the paper bags from her hands. I shook my head as I peaked inside of them. "Jenna... You didn't have to, really."
Jenna rolled her eyes, her feet carrying her towards my dresser where my makeup lay in a messy pile. Grabbing the wands of mascara and lipsticks, she chuckled and turned to me. "Criss, it's your birthday. Did you really think I wasn't going to get you anything? Open it."
I done as instructed and opened the first bag. All I could see was white lacy fabric, so I dug my hand in and lifted the material out. My jaw dropped at the sight of a beautiful white dress. My awestruck expression lifted a grin on Jenna's lips and I couldn't help but laugh, "Jenna, this is beautiful. But... Why did you get me a dress? You know I , like, never wear them."
