A gentle sigh floated from her lips. She batted her eyelashes and smiled lightly as she watched the way his mouth moved. The way his eyebrows furrowed and his lips twitched when he was concentrating.. He hadn't left her mind once in that long and arduous day, and the moment she walked into his classroom weight lifted from her shoulders, and butterflies danced in her stomach.
She couldn't explain whe she had these feelings towards him, and she didn't bother trying. All she knew is that she wanted him to notice her.
When the lunch bell rang, her heart jumped an extra beat, and then it sank. For the umpteenth time that day, he would leave her sight.
She shifted nervoulsy in her seat, not wanting to stand up and walk away from a chance to tell him how she really felt. He lifted his head from his desk work and frowned at her. "Ms.Gill, is everything alright? Can I help you?"
Chills ran down her spine. She could hear her heartbeat excelerate. It was now or never. She tiptoed towards his deskm afraid that if she made a single noise she would ruin the moment. He questioned her with his eyes, and she knew there was no turning back. She let her feelings spill out.
Leaving nothing to question, she ran out of his room. She would not give him a chance to turn her down, or put her down. That had happened to her too many times before.
The following night she would succumb to no sleep. Even half dreaming, her brain would not erase his face from her thoughts. She had never expirienced this much fear and suspense in her life! How could it be that one simple human could cause this much emotion in her without even trying?
The following day was harder than the last. She could feel all the pressure of life slowly crushing her, until she felt like a tiny silhouette against a million skyscrapers.
She could already hear her teachers lecture from a mile away: He would tell her that he coudln't be with her, that she was too young. He would threaten her, manipulate her into thinking she was worthless.
Yet she still had hope. She just had to think positive. "You only live once," she whispered to herself over ad over.
As she neared his room the world floated away, leaving only his door in her sights. The halls felt empty, and the only thing she could hear was her shoes squeaking against the tile floor as she walked. She had never felt so alone, yet so close to comfort.
As the toe of her worn sneaker touched the floor of his classroom, regret flooded her. Ashamed of how foolish she was and had been, she kept her eyes glued to the floor as she walked to her desk.
She did not lift her gaze once through his lesson. Fear was in her heart.
When the bell rang, she was last to leave. She took slow and measured steps as she exited his classroom. Deep down, she still had hope.
And she was right to have hope. A firm hand was placed on her shoulder, sending ice down her back. She knew who it was. She turned to see him towering above her. He ad rebelion written in his eyes.
"Ms.Gill.. About what you said yesterday..," he hesitated, and his hand started to loosen its grip on her.
He closed his eyes as he whispered "Let's give it a try."
