You stare at the ground of New York, a cold breeze lightly hitting your cheek, people crowding around you cheering. It's time."3..!"
You look around and meet Alex's gaze, he grins slightly, cheering and shouting with the crowd.
"2...!"
You start cheering as well, knowing it's almost time.
"1..!" You break into your widest grin, and everyone begins screaming. You see Eliza kissing Alex, your heart breaking. You run off, crying.
"HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was 5 years before your best friend Eliza, and Alex had said their vows. Before you were heartbroken. Before you moved to London, with your new boyfriend, Jefferson. He was stubborn and annoying sometimes, but you truly loved him. He loved you as well, and made your life happy.
While you're reading in your room, Jefferson bites his lip and hands you the phone. You say your thanks, and put your ear to the phone, instantly hearing a heartbroken Eliza. She explains about the Reynolds affair, and you get down there as quickly as possible to console her. But instead of Eliza, you find a stressed Alex, pacing back and forth in the living room. He notices you, and tries to open his mouth, but you cut him off.
"HOW COULD YOU?!"
Alex fidgeted, and looked away.
"YOU WILL NEVER FIND ANYONE AS TRUSTING OR AS KIND AS ELIZA, AND YET, YOU DO THIS?!"
He grabs your hands.
"Look at me, Y/N."
You try to be defiant and not listen, but he forces you to stare in those deep blue eyes of his. You can see the shame and regret in them, almost.
"I never wanted to marry Eliza, I wanted you, but you and Angelica told me to treat her well, and so, I tried. But the letters and memories with Eliza, they all meant nothing."
You try to search for another answer, frantically, realization hitting you.
'So I gave him up?'Alex looks at you again. "Stay with me, and leave Jefferson! Y/N, I need you!"
He tries to kiss you, but you push him away.
"Number 1, I am not a horrible girlfriend, nor a horrible friend. Number 2, Jefferson cares about me more than you ever did! Number 3, Eliza needs me more than you. And 4, you broke mine, and my friend's heart, so I'd rather get smeared with cheeseburgers and get thrown in an shark-infested ocean, than stay with you!" You spit out, disgusted at him.
He nods sadly, looking at the ground.
"Just remember, I shall always love you."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A year later, a letter comes in your mailbox, from Alex. You open it up, and read it.
'My dearest women, it is my deepest shame about the affair that has happened. I hope you may forgive me, and my soul can be blessed, in either heaven, or hell. You both have the heart of angels, and it would be a small chance of anyone ever remembering the good things in my life. I hope all my friends, family, and children are not scared by this image of my gruesome death. As I do know Aaron Burr has won the duel by accident, and had no idea of if I was throwing away my shot or not. I hope you all stay in fair health, fortune and good luck.
Adieu, Eliza, best of wives, and Y/N, best of Women.'
