You're never too busy to be beautiful.
I was sporting an old pair of flats and a plain black dress. The letter said to wait a week before my transportation would arrive. It was standard procedure to deliver their students to the safety of the school by hand. The engine of a vehicle broke me from my trance as I rushed to the window and peeked down to see a vehicle waiting for me. Or a limousine should I say.
"I thought as much." my mum said snickering from behind me once she saw me scrambling down the stairs whilst struggling to straighten my dress and force my hair into submission. My mother had insisted on me looking as formal as possible whilst I opted for something far more casual. I immediately regretted my decision.
A man stood whom I assumed to be my chauffer helped me with the luggage as I struggled through the front lawn with my bag full of worn clothing. The house looked great from the outside. Sure it was worn and looked like no one inhabited it, but still the outside had outlived its interiors.
"Laurel," my mum called running after me and I turned towering over her small figure. Her once flawless skin had been marred by the lines of hardship and the constant need to look after me and my little sister. Now was the time to repay back all of the favours she had done for me.
"Yes?" I said suddenly realising how helpless she really is. She looked as though a million things crossed her mind, things she didn’t want me to do, words I wasn’t allowed to use and characters I certainly wasn’t allowed to exhibit.
"If things get too much, come home at once." She said sternly and I know that she meant every word. I promised to take her up on her offer but I doubt that I’d use it. Sure I might need it, but I knew that I wouldn’t use it.
Far off behind my mum, hiding behind the safety of the door was my little sister. Her small head peeked over the side sparing me a small smile. I offered one back and waved. She shied away from the wave, I’d pushed my luck.
"Miss Silver." the chauffeur greeted once he had settled me into the all too fancy vehicle. I merely smiled and nodded my head in acknowledgement of him tongue tied by the amount of wealth I was surrounded by.
“How long until we get to school?" I inquired, barely raising my voice.
"A few hours at least. You should rest, you'll need a lot of your strength once we get there." he said before he let the screen up to give me some privacy. I let out a sigh, I hardly slept the previous night and even though it was morning, I was pretty sure I could easily fall asleep.
My eyes fluttered open once the door was jerked open. I looked into the the unblinking face of my chauffeur whose name I had soon forgotten. Stepping out of the vehicle into the bright sunlight, i squinted tiredly at the sight before me.
"Miss Silver, welcome to your new home."
