In Which Allison And Lydia Go To A Funfair And Lydia Goes On A Roller Coaster Just For Allison
roller coasters are not even a thing. they are a metaphor. there will come a time when you are all the way up and suddenly you realise something you've never thought you would.
“Hey, Allison,” Lydia shouts and Allison turns around. When she sees how pale Lydia is, a bit of the adrenaline she just felt when she saw the big rollercoaster rushes out of her blood and she walks back a few meters, so she is standing right in front of Lydia, who looks at her with big puppy eyes; the ones that she normally sees on Toby.
“C’mon, Ia,” Allison whispers and grins because of the nickname Toby gave her and because of the goose bumps on Lydia’s arms. She, herself, gets goose bumps as well because of the thought of Toby. Since the date last week, they have not talked yet because Toby was busy with school – or so he said – and Allison feels awkward because they kissed. They kissed. She still can’t believe that and has to close her eyes at the thought of Toby’s lips on hers. She still can’t believe that it didn’t feel as right to her as she thought and hoped it would.
“Allison,” Lydia whines and looks at her with pleading eyes. “Do you not remember the last time we went to a funfair together? Do you not remember that? Allison! You can’t ask me to do that! You know how much I hate to throw up and how I do throw up after riding such a big rollercoaster.”
Allison groans, but smiles at her best friend. “Oh, well. You won’t throw up this time because we have not eaten anything yet. And after the rollercoaster, you can eat as much cotton candy as you want. Please, Lydia. Only one time,” Allison begs and sees Lydia cracking. She just has to push a little more and she’s convinced her inconvincible friend.
“I’ll buy you cotton candy. And now, that rollercoaster is waiting for us to ride it, so if you could please come with me, thank you.”
She doesn’t wait for a response; she just takes Lydia’s hand and smiles to herself when she feels her shiver because of their touch. She still has not decided whether she has feelings for her best friend, too, but she decides to worry about that later and to enjoy the rollercoaster now. But that is obviously not going to happen.
“Fine”, she hears Lydia mumble and a grin spreads across her face. After all, it is not as hard to convince Lydia as she thought it would be, but maybe that’s only because she knows how to get her. Since her best friend is in love with her, and all, you know…
After they are sitting in two seats together, Lydia’s clutching Allison’s hand so hard, it hurts, but she doesn’t tell her to let go because she knows just how scared Lydia is of rollercoaster, she is only too proud to admit it.
“You know, I can bear your love for carousels way better than the one for roller coasters,” Lydia mumbles and Allison has to laugh. She suddenly realizes how much Lydia has to like her because she knows that if she was scared of roller coasters, she would never in her life ride one, not even with Lydia together because Allison is not good at facing her fears.
Sighing, she mentally puts it on the list Flaws I Still Have To Work On and clutches Lydia’s hand just as hard, just to show her she is there for her.
“Thanks,” Lydia mumbles but Allison just smiles because the car is starting to move and again, she feels that rush of adrenaline in every part of her body.
“Don’t be scared,” Allison shouts over the loud wind and sees the fear in Lydia’s eyes as the car moves up and up and up. Don’t be scared, she thinks again, but is too excited to say it out loud.
