The trees have a voice

It was late in the afternoon when I decided to go for a walk. I had just gotten into a fight with my friend and decided I needed some fresh air.  I quickly got lost in thought as I drifted threw the trees that surround my neighborhood.

When I snapped out of it,  it was completely dark out.

"one shouldn't walk alone at this hour"

I turned around shocked.  I looked around to see who had spoken.  I saw no one.  It must have been my imagination.  I continued walking when all of the sudden I heard it again.

"where are you going? I didn't mean to startle you. "

"who's there. " I said looking around once again.  "

"it's me the tree"

"don't be silly trees can't talk. " I said starting to get worried that I was talking to a psychopath.

"I'm not really a tree. " it laughed "I am a mere man. "

"then why did you say you were a tree. " I sputtered out.

"because being a tree seems much more delightful than being a human. "

"really how so. " I responded genuinely curious.

"Trees stay in one spot.  They don't have to worry about what they're doing or how to do it. "

"seems awfully lonely" I replied

"that's the beauty of it. You get to watch all of the people who walk past you and see the different sides of life. "

"I see your point but I am still very happy as a human. " I said.

"not everyone is cut out for the tree life. Enjoy your walk miss. "

I heard a noise like a tree branch snapping and then feet racing deeper into the woods.

On the way home I thought about what had hapoened.  I smiled to myself and thought about what it would truly be like to be a tree.
