Lost Smile

I am still looking for my lost smile,
I keep waiting for sunshine,
But I keep striking up rain.
Is this search all in vain?

Will I ever find high ground,
A place to rest my head down,
Or will I be lost in the dark,
The light at the end of the tunnel just too far?

I look out for clear skies,
That first break out of sunlight,
But just black clouds overhead,
Is my search all in vain?

In my mind I am already lost,
In the rain I've lost my shadows,
Dusk is setting and as the silence unfolds
I'll again be alone with my thoughts.

It's all gone.

Where's my lost smile?

....................

I caught a glimpse of light,
Turned out to be a false dawn,
Just some fireflies passing by
Leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I can hear myself think,
Ponder my losses, count my sins,
Now that smile has deserted me.
All I have left is its memory.

It hurts to think of that time,
When stars gave out their heavenly light,
And I used to watch them shine
Not a care what their loss would be like.

I look out for clear skies.
That first break out of moonlight.
But just black clouds overhead
Is my search all in vain?

In my mind I am already lost,
In the rain I've lost my shadows,
Dusk is setting and as the silence unfolds
I'll again be alone with only my thoughts.

It's all gone.

Where's my lost smile?
