W-Why, why's it so cold?
( Heh hi reader! Just a reminder, I TRIED to make this story... sad... kind of. STARLITSYMPHONY, HOW DO YOU MAKE SAD STORIES? * tableflip * ... * ahem * Well, anyways, enjoy c: )
Al and Rena were just orphans out on the street. Nowhere to go, nobody would adopt them. They're icy cold fingers would lay on the frosty bench. Nobody even cared to give them a little snack for their hunger. Why, why does the world hate us?. The orphans were depressed at a young age. Al was walking through the trash alley, trying to find anything to eat. It doesn't have to be fancy, please, just let me find something big enough to share with Rena.
Al rubbed his hand against the cold foggy window, looking at the food on the people's table(s). He wanted to just steal it, do anything for the food. They've never had a good meal like that since, well, forever. He'd do anything to steal the food... anything. Right before he was going to return to Rena with a cold half of an orange, he saw a lady throw away her food in the garbage. Well, the food shouldn't go to waste... maybe I can try some, it's probably still clean " Al said while walking to the trashcan.
B-BISCUTS?! Warm biscuts... mash potatoes... french toast... why would anyone want this to go to waste? Al said while running to Rena with a piece of toast in his mouth. He ran past the rich people in fine fur coats imported from England. He stood by Rena, who was leaning on the bench's legs closing her eyes. Al touched her frosty fingers, and stroked her cheek lightly. Rena, renaaa, I found some food. Not just any food, but a meal!
Rena opened her eyes and stared at Al. C-Can you help me up? My back hurts from laying against the hard frosty bench. Al helped her up and she grabbed a biscut. She took a small bite, then a bigger one, and eventually, she finished it. Al divided half the plate of food he found with her, and they both digged in. This food is good, now, Onii-san, if it isn't to much trouble, can you please, please, find something warmer for me to wear. Like, a coat, or, possibly a blanket. Al stared at her then ran off shouting on his way I'll try!
He looked everywhere. He looked in donated boxes, stores, etc. he just, couldn't find anything. Al gave up, and ran back to Rena. He ran past many people, not bothering to look at them. But right when he arrived, he didn't see Rena at the bench. Inhaling deeply, he looked around the bench and nearby. Luckily, Al found her. She was walking on the ledge of the small fence by the lake. Rena was coughing, loudly. And not just any cough, but she was coughing out blood. And lots of it.
Onii-san, did you find anything? Rena said while coughing up blood. Al looked at her, tearing up a bit. He took off his thin coat, and wrapped it around Rena. It was the only thing he had. He started lightly hitting the bench, wishing for Rena to stop coughing up blood. He punched his hand harder, and harder, causing the bench arms to break. Blood dripped from his hands, but he couldn't feel the pain. For his fingers were numb from the cold frosty weather.
Onii, I think you injured your hand. Rena said while pulling the jacket close to her shoulders. It's nothing, don't worry about me. Al said while walking away to see if he could find any more food.
I'm going to die soon, and I hope that Onii realizes that. Rena tried to whisper, but it wasn't much of a whisper. Al still heard her, a single tear fell out of his ocean blue eyes, and he walked away, not bothering to look back. If he did, he'd burst into more tears. Al walked into his hiding place, also known as the back of the lunch restaurant. He sat down in the corner for a bit, then thought to himself, Wait, if Rena's gonna die soon, I... should be there to die with her. I can't live my life without my sibling.
After a few minutes thinking about what he thought to himself, he started walking back to Rena. When he got there, he saw Rena on the ledge again. Only this time, she was sitting. She was looking into the deep, blue water. Onii, I wanna die. This is how I'll die. Rena said while silently crying. WHAT?! Why do you want to die?! Al said while tearing up. If Rena wants to die, then, Al shall die with her. Onii, think about it. In heaven, our lives will be better! Think for a sec! We won't have to worry about anything! Rena said while jumping off the ledge onto the concrete bridge and walked to Al.
Maybe Rena was right. Al thought for a sec, and then what Rena said made sense. Now he knew why she was standing on the ledge. She wanted to jump into the lake. She couldn't swim... so she'd drown. All this time, she wanted to jump in and drown already, but she was waiting for me to jump with her. And live together with her in heaven.
He looked at her, then sat down. Rena could tell by his eyes that he agreed, but Rena and him would have to do it tomorrow. Rena nodded, and so did Al. They cleaned all the frost off the bench, and slept together on it. Tomorrow was the day that they'll both die on.
At 12:00, midnight, Al got off the bench and walked straight foward to look for more food. It wouldn't be important anyways, we're gonna die tomorrow. It's not like we have to eat. Al thought to himself. But he continued searching anyways. But before he got far, he stepped on a little can filled with hard candy. It was frozen to the concrete ground. Like a magnet. Al pulled it off and wiped the frost off, even if it made his fingers numb.
He took a chance and tried one of the hard candies. They're sweet, yet sour at the same time. I'll save some for Rena. Al said while putting the box in his pocket. But when he did, a little piece of paper fell out of the hard candy box. Al unrolled the piece of paper, and read the note on it.
Dear, Al + Rena
Don't go. Don't risk your life over something selfish. You guys deserve to live longer. Please, listen. Tomorrow, DON'T JUMP INTO THE LAKE. I'm begging you. You may not know me, but listen. I don't want you guys to die. Please. Well, if you listen, thank you. If you didn't... then, it's your decision if you wanted to drown and die.

Who's anonymous? Al thought to himself. He threw away the hard candy box but kept the note inside his pocket. He wanted to save it to show Rena tomorrow. Maybe she/he was right... maybe it's not worth it to die over something selfish. I'm sure that people have far worse lives than us. Our lives will get better in the future... but for now, we'll just have to keep on living through the tough times. But we won't lose hope for sure.
Morning time, time to drown:
Oni~ wake up! Look at the beautiful lake ready for us! Ready to drown and get this over with? Rena said while jumping onto the ledge by the lake. Al sighed, and rubbed his frosty fingers against the frozen bench. He looked down at the lake, then back at Rena. Rena, before you make the decision, please, read this note. I don't think we should... Al said while taking the note out of his pocket and handing it to Rena. Rena read the note, and became red, red with anger, that is. She crumbled the note, and threw it into the ocean, then stared at Al.
PEACE! THE ONE CHANCE AT PEACE! NO MORE GAGGING, OR NO MORE PEOPLE LOOKING AT US WITH A DISGUSTED FACE. TREATING US LIKE TRASH. MAKED FUN OF. STARVING TO DEATH. THIRSTY MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE! NO! I'M SICK OF IT! GO AHEAD AND LISTEN TO THIS STRANGER WHO GAVE YOU A NOTE. ALL SHE WANTS IS FOR US TO DIE PAINFULLY AND TO NOT HAVE PEACE! I DON'T CARE ANYMORE. GO AHEAD AND LIVE WITHOUT ME. BECAUSE I'M GONNA JUMP INTO THE LAKE NO MATTER WHAT. IN FACT, WHY DON'T I JUMP IN NOW? Rena said while jumping onto the ledge.
NOO! RENA, DON'T! Al said while trying to grab her hand, but it was to late. She has already jumped, but here were the last words she whispered:
" Thank you, for everything, Onii. "
End.
