One girl. Depression. And love.
Scarlett had moved away from her home to a new place. She was struggling. Every day depression started to drag on her, mentally and physically. Then she met Cole. Cole brought her out of her depression just enough. Every day after school she would watch him walk out of his last class with his friends and on rare occasion he noticed her and waved. But that was all she got. A wave. Then everything changed. Her grades went down, she couldn't focus, and her depression started to make her have suicidal thoughts. One day, she snapped. Scarlett had decided to kill herself. She wanted to die. No one else noticed this change because no one cared. She decided to write a note. The note said, "I am going to kill myself tonight. I will be at the pier at the Lexigon Lake at midnight. No one will care or notice that i'm gone anyways. -Scarlett". Scarlett decided to give this note to Cole. That day at school she slipped the note into Cole's locker and walked away. Then she waited. Scarlett knew that Cole wouldn't see the note until after school, like it mattered to him. Later, at 11:30 p.m. Scarlett slipped out of her house and did the short walk to Lexigon Lake. She arrived five minutes early and decided to wait until 12:05 to jump into the embrace of the lake, where she would drown. At 12 Scarlett started to walk onto the pier. When she reached the end she turned around. What was she expecting? Someone to jump out of the bushes? So she took a step back; then another one. There was a little bit of the pier left. Just as she was about to end her life she saw the bushes rustle. Then Cole stepped out. He had come. He saw her at the end of the dock and ran; he ran like a life depended on it, which it did. She hadn't expected him to come and had not even considered what she would do if he did. Scarlett waited until Cole reached her and before she could speak, Cole said, " Don't do it! I have to tell you something. I like you. I have since you moved here." Scarlett gasped. Then she said, " I like you too. I thought you didn't even notice me." With that Cole said, " I've done more than notice you." Then, he did the unthinkable. He reached out and kissed her. Only then Scarlett believed someone cared for her. That kiss had saved her life. When Cole pulled away he had a nervous smile on his face. Then they both sat down at the end of the pier and looked at the rising stars together; it was a beautiful clear night. Scarlett put her head on Cole's shoulder and watched a new day be born. Slowly the sun rose, bringing new life to the world, and a new life to Scarlett.
