As I was laying in bed, savoring the gentle warmth coming from the open blinds on my window, I had no idea my life was about to change.
I slowly opened my eyes, knowing I had to get up, but denying it all the same. Finally I just sat up, prepared to face the day. I looked across to the other side of the bed where my husband was still sleeping. Feeling a little mischievous, I picked up my pillow and started to walk around the bed, veeeeery quietly. When I was right near his head I started attacking him with the pillow, laughing the whole time.
He sat up quickly. "Whaa- Hey- Hey-!"He yelled at me, blocking my blows with both arms. A smile spread across his face as he picked up his own pillow and started a counter-attack.
"No fair!" I yelled through my giggles. "You're way bigger than me!" He just kept hitting me, it was clear he was winning. Plus, I was too weak from laughing too much.
"That's right I'm bigger!" He yelled. "So I can do this!" then he rammed into me and heaved me over his shoulder.
"Ahh!" I screamed. "Put me down!" I started hitting his back and he just laughed.
Then he dropped me down on the bed and dropped next to me. Out of breath and with crazy hair, I just looked into his eyes and smiled. He leaned over and brushed a loose hair out of my face. "You really should start lifting weights or something." He said and I laughed. Then he pressed his lips to mine. Getting lost in the moment, I almost forgot the reason I got up in the first place.
"Urrgghhhh." I moaned, "I have to get Clara ready for school."
"I was thinking, she doesn't need an education, right?" He responded, still trying to kiss me.
"You know, it was your idea to send her to pre-k."
"I don't know why you ever listen to me."
I laughed, getting up off the bed. I walked out of our bedroom into the hallway and entered Clara's room. You would have never guessed that under that pile of blankets was a tiny little four year old little girl, but that was how she liked to sleep. I walked across her overly pink room to her bed and attempted to find her head under all those covers. "Clara. Clara, honey, you have to get up." I said softly, shaking her little shoulder. When she didn't respond, I lifted her into my arms, pulling slightly to release her legs from her bed, and carried her into the kitchen. Her eyes stayed closed, but I knew she was awake. This was a little game we played every morning.
