In Love With My Stepbrother

The Conversation

Lelani Harrison woke up from her 5-hour nap feeling like she only slept for 5 minutes. She didn't want to get up and she wasn't planning to but still did anyway. She went over to the pink square mirror that she got when she was 10, Her hair was a mess, Her breath was foul, and she smelled like she was running for 8 miles. She got her soft brush and began to brush out the knots in her hair and things she didn't even know was in there.

   "Lelani!" yelled Miss. Droughtson that was her widowed mom. Lelani's dad died back in 2012 by the cause of an unexpected stroke, Lelani never had a good relationship with her dad before he died... She did have a lot of things though she had a five-year-old brother named Jacob who died from brain cancer, insecurity, and no friends, and she had freckles, and hazel eyes and all of those things she hated about her self.

     "Yes!" Lelani called back struggling to get this wad of gum that has been in her hair for at least 2 days. Her mom didn't answer back she hated when her mom did this, She called her and never replied back. Lelani rolled her eyes and put down her brush got on a tank top and some shorts and started to head down her marble stairs. 

   As Lelani got down the stairs she saw her mom reading her favorite book "City of Bones" by Cassandra Clare. She had been on the book for at least 3 days and she wouldn't stop until she was done reading it.

    "Mom?" Lelani said tapping her mom she was still reading it and looked up after 30 seconds. "You called me down here?"

"Oh hey Lelani.. ok.. the reason why I called you down here might be a little surprising," said Miss. Droughtson putting down the book. Lelani looked at her mom like she had 14 heads or something they had a staring contest for a minute or so.

"Mom!" yelled Lelani making her mom blink. "Well?"

"Well.. Lelani Harrison you know I love you right" Miss. Droughtson said holding her daughter's hands not giving her a chance to speak. "So  I have a secret for six months I have been talking with this wonderful man named Eunice Jones and you know how I went on that business trip for 2 days and you stayed with grandma?" Lelani shook her head yes and looked down to see her mom's hands trembling. "Well actually I went to Michigan to meet him... and he asked me to marry him and I said yes"

Lelani quickly took her hands out of her mothers grip her eyes tearing up.

   "YOU WHAT!" she yelled to her mom "You have been talking to this man since MARCH! and You haven't told me ANYTHING about him!" 

    "But I just wanted for us to start over..." Miss Droughtson started

     "Cut the crap!" Lelani said stomping up to her room door slamming it and weeping on her pillow looking up at her ceiling.

"Daddy" Lelani said "I miss you and I wish you could come back I'm thirteen and you died when I was 7 and you never told me goodbye. I hope you and Jacob are OK up there he should be 8 now right? Stay safe I will always love you"
