Introduction

                       

              What's that noise...? I hear it coming from the basement often times getting louder and louder until I gather the courage to see what it is. Then it stops. I never see anything. I live alone. Even though I'm a fourteen-year-old girl, I manage. My great grandparents were rich, and their servants are forced to serve me. I don't want them too though. I give them the money my great grandparents have left behind. I give it to the servants so they can pay for my schooling. I walk to school every morning, the clouds looming above. I see the other kids but, I don't care to talk to them.

              "BANG!" I hear the noise coming from the basement again, though this time it's a noise I have not yet heard. I take a deep breath. My dark skin shimmering in the gloomy sunlight that shone through my window. My black-haired bangs flew over my eyes as I whip my head to the door. I brush them out of my face as I slowly get up. I open the door, it makes a loud screech that sends shivers up my spine every time I open it. I walk down the stairs, they all make a small creak noise as my foot leaves each stair. I see the opening pathway that leads to the basement. I walk down the steps, one by one I hear the click of my shoe hitting them. I make my way to the end step. I look to my right. I see something I haven't before. A shadow. It isn't my own but it isn't a person. It's a big square. Each side the perfect distance up and over. I walk to the shadow. I go to touch it but as I do a black smoke rushes to my face. I turn away and cough softly in fear of something hearing me. I look back to the shadow but I'm left with a square door. I think about opening it as I touch the knob made of stone. As I turn the knob I see light shine into the room. I swiftly shut the door. What am I doing?

               "That's it!" I say to myself. I open it and crawl in. I see a forest with beautiful trees. Where am I?
